Gift inspiration for the outdoor lovers in your life
The holidays are drawing near and it’s time to find that perfect gift. West Virginia State Parks and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources offer some suggestions that will please any outdoor lover on your list.
Whether you’re looking to make a major purchase or just want a little something to show someone you’re thinking of them, you’ll find gifts to fit any budget.
Choose Your Parks Adventure
A West Virginia State Parks gift card makes an ideal stocking stuffer or present you can tuck into a greeting card and drop in the mail. The cards are available in amounts from $25 to $500 in four different designs. Gift cards can be used across the parks system and can be redeemed on lodge room stays, cabin and cottage rentals, camping, gift shop purchases, dining, golf green fees, golf season passes and more.
The Gift That Gives Back
Anyone who hunts, fishes, or just loves wildlife will enjoy the 2023 West Virginia Wildlife Calendar. The calendar features original paintings of native wildlife and landscapes with fun facts about West Virginia wildlife, important hunting and fishing dates, and more. Calendar sales help fund the WVDNR Wildlife Resources Section’s education programs, so your purchase also gives back to the community. If you do not wish to order online, you can call 304-558-9152.
For the Reader in Your Life
Do you have a loved one who’s moved out of state and is homesick for Almost Heaven? Or perhaps a friend who recently moved to West Virginia and wants to learn more about the Mountain State? Gift them with a subscription to Wonderful West Virginia. The magazine, published monthly by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, features beautiful full-color photos and fascinating articles about nature, history, recreation, art and people in the Mountain State.
Hunters & Anglers Wish List
Surprise your favorite hunter or angler with a 2023 hunting/fishing license, or even a lifetime license. If the recipient has previously held a license, all you need is the recipient’s name and date of birth. If the recipient has never had a license, you may need additional information to establish an account. To purchase a lifetime license (or an annual license) as a gift, call the WVDNR Licensing team at 304-558-6200.
West Virginia Souvenirs
West Virginia State Park gift shops stock a wide variety of goods the outdoor lover will appreciate. And what’s more — many of them are made by local artisans, so you’re supporting local business as well.
The gift selection ranges from hand-carved hiking sticks to cozy hoodies. You may even find handmade soaps, hand-blown glassware or West Virginia-made foods. Kids will love the park-themed jigsaw puzzles and stuffed animals. Magnets, stickers and other trinkets round out an inventory of smaller items that make perfect stocking stuffers.
Gift shops are located at all lodge parks as well as several other state parks and forests. For more information, contact the park you plan to visit.
