Weekend Wildlife & Bil Lepp Live: Cacapon

August 4 August 6

Cacapon State Park activities this weekend features Bil Lepp on Saturday plus wildlife programs, crafts and games August 4 – 6, 2023. These activities and others are conducted or begin at the nature center unless noted. Open to the public and free to attend.

FRIDAY, August 4, 2023
10:00AM Hogwarts School of Wizardry
Are you a Harry Potter fan? Discover some very special animal survival adaptations that are almost magical. Then design your own wand and spell to create your own magical being. YPP

1:00PM Monarch Egg Hunt
Come & find out how to support the monarchs life cycle by exploring our monarch waystation. We will be using magnifying glasses to look for eggs. YPP

2:00PM Bobcat Talk
Learn some fun facts about the bobcat and touch a pelt. YPP

3:00PM Food Chain & Food Webs
Learn the difference producers and consumers by playing a game. YPP

4:00-6:00PM Welcome to Cacapon!
Meet the Park Naturalist at the lodge to answer any general park questions you may have or find out what amazing recreation and nature activities Cacapon has to offer. Welcome to Cacapon Resort State Park!

7:30PM Let’s Travel to Costa Rica
Join WV State Park junior naturalist, Vladimir Staples, as he shares his recent trip to Costa Rica by a power point presentation. Traveling to the rainforest and cloud forest he will share the amazing geography, plants & animals. Join us at the nature center.

8:30PM LED Badminton & Game
Let’s have some LED fun! Seriously, we’re playing badminton from dusk into dark.

SATURDAY, August 5, 2023
10:00AM Stream Study
Discover what makes a stream healthy and what unlikely critters may be hiding in plain sight! You may want to bring shoes to get wet. YPP

11:30AM Monarch Life Cycle
How long does a monarch live? What do they eat? Come & find out. YPP

1:30PM Cacapon Tie-Dye Make & take home your
own tie-dye shirt. Purchase Cacapon State Park
T-shirt here at the nature center for $10.

3:00PM Friendship Bracelets
Join our summer naturalist for a variety of fun colors and styles of bracelets.

7:00PM Professional Storyteller BIL LEPP
Join master storyteller, champion liar, funny guy, author, & TV host at Cacapon Bath House.

8:45PM Glow Stick Walk on the Golf Course
Meet park naturalists on the outdoor patio of the new lodge for a fun way to end the evening! Glow sticks, necklaces & bracelets provided.

10:30AM Nature Bingo
Learn some fun facts and see who wins the challenge.

11:30AM Bobcat Talk
Learn some fun facts about the bobcat and touch a pelt. YPP

1:30PM Black Bear Game
Learn some black bearfacts & play a self-guided game. YPP

2:30PM Discovery Hike
Let’s go explore and see what we find. YPP

Come and visit the Tom Ambrose Nature Center! The nature center is a great stop for all ages, showcasing exhibits on the park history and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp Morgan 1934-41. Other West Virginia natural exhibits include an extensive taxidermy
collection of wildlife- fish, birds, fox, bobcat, mountain lion, deer, elk, and eastern grey wolf!

Also, hands-on sand displays for wildlife tracks and a new geology interactive map to design your own mountains, rivers and lakes. Take a park naturalist guided hike or join the daily
