Weekend Things to Do: Pipestem
August 4, 2023 – August 6, 2023
Visit the Nature Center and see our exhibits and heritage structures, and sit a spell in our West Virginia made rocking chairs, listen to the outside birds inside, or attend activities planned August 4 – 6, 2023.
Friday, August 4th
4:00 pm- What Should I Bring? *YPP
Meet in the Activity Shelter behind the Nature Center for a talk about what you should take with you when you explore the great outdoors.
(40 minutes)
6:00pm- Beginner Archery *YPP
Meet at the Campground store to practice
your archery skills. (1 hour)
7:00-9:00 pm – Live Music! w/ Corey Lee McQuade
Outside of the Black Bear Lounge at Pipestem Resort State Park
Appalachian/Americana folk-style bluegrass, country, blues, and more, all in one.
7:30 pm- Campfire Time! *YPP
Meet at the fire ring behind the Campground store to learn how to make char cloth, a fire-starting assistance, and make fire using this primitive fire starter. We will also roast some marshmallows. Bring a camping chair if you have one. (1 hour)
Saturday, August 5, 2023
11:00 am- Nature Hunt *YPP
Meet at the Nature Center. We will hand out a list of objects to look for in Nature. Once you find them, you receive a prize! (30 minutes) Nature Fact: 80% of snake bite victims get bitten while pestering the snake.
2:00 pm- Ultimate Frisbee
Meet at the Campground Store to learn how to play Ultimate Frisbee. Ultimate Frisbee is a team
sport which mixes elements of football, basketball, and rugby, substituting the ball with a flying disc
and the referee with the spirit of the game. (1hour)
4:00 pm- Pipestem Heritage *YPP
Meet at the Nature Center for an in depth tour of our heritage structures and to see pictures from the past taken in our own park.
Sunday, August 6, 2023
10:00 am- Country Roads Walk *YPP
Meet at Park Headquarters to walk along the road and into the woods to learn some pre-park history.
11:00 am- Pond Walk *YPP
Meet us at the Nature Center to walk to the nearby old farm pond to see what critters we
might find. (30 minutes)
5:00 pm- Bird Bingo *YPP
Come by the Activity Shelter at the Nature Center for a few rounds of Bird Bingo and learn some
interesting bird facts. (45 minutes)
Young People for Parks
YPP is an environmental education program for youth ages 6-16. Participants attend three specified activities during their stay. For more information inquire at the Nature Center.
