Wrapping up October at Blackwater Falls State Park with rocks, fossils, nature crafts and more. Enjoy these activities October 28-30, 2022. Activities begin at the nature center unless indicated. Join us.

Friday, October 28, 2022
Nature Center Open: 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

1:30 p.m.
Rockin’ on the Trail of Geology
Meet at Pendleton Point Overlook Salt Sands Sign to ramble deeper into the rocks, terrain and perhaps fossils that make Blackwater Falls State Park. About 1 hour. YPP

2:30 p.m.
Fossil Craft!!
In order to study the history of life on earth, paleontologists study fossil remains of the organisms that once lived here. This Fossil Find Activity invites participants to become paleontologists by finding and gently removing the sediment to expose real trilobite replicas or make their own fossils. This activity requires patience and time to uncover trilobites or create a fossil craft. Craft fee: $2.00 YPP

Leaf a Long Hike
Join the park naturalist, Paulita, to explore the Balsam Fir trail. About 90 minutes, 1.5 miles. YPP

Halloween Scavenger Hunt
Brittany will be your scavenger hunt hostess with a list of fun things to find. Return completed list by 1:00 p.m. to earn a small prize from our prize box.

Natural Cordage & Basket Craft
Learn some basics about creating cordage from plants and weave a small basket. Craft fee: $15.00. Limited to 12 participants at a first come first serve basis. YPP

Bust n’ Boom Campfire
Kenny will be at the fire circle to sharing a little history of the area and perhaps roast make a
snack using a pie iron. What’s a pie iron? Visit with Kenny to find out. About one hour YPP

Let’s Talk Turkey & Craft
Kenny is back and invites you to learn about the wild turkey and how they become the success story for conservation. About 1 hour. YPP Turkey or Leaf Suncatcher. Craft fee: $1.00

2:00 p.m.
Feature Movie
Join the staff to get revved up and ready to enjoy a timeless film about a lovable car with a mind of his own. Rated G. Free. About 1.5 hours.
