Summer Fun Continues: Holly River

THURSDAY, 6/16

VERY FISHY
Learn the parts of a fish, fold an origami fish, then feed baby trout in our trout rearing pond. Meet Naturalist in Old pavilion. (YPP)

INCREDIBLE JOURNEY
Become a water droplet as you move through all the places Water can be on planet EARTH – a very active game. Learn while having fun in Windy Gap Schoolyard. (YPP)

BUTTERFLIES & MOTHS
To learn the subtle differences between these two beautiful flying insects, examine their antennae, their life cycles & longevity. Color one to take home (YPP) Meet in Old Pavilion

BATS-WHY WE NEED THEM
Learn the attributes of our only flying mammals and about the white-nosed fungus that is killing up to 90% of hibernating bat species in many WV caves. Build your own bat house! (YPP) Meet naturalist in Old Pavilion by the bridge.

BADMINTON
Find us between the pool & tennis court, we’ll be flying birdies over the badminton net, just for fun & exercise!
SATURDAY, 6/18

TURTLE TREK
Meet in Windy Gap Schoolyard to learn the perils of our Eastern Box Turtle in a self-guided game. Survival is tricky but you might live to 100 if you’re lucky. That’s why they don’t make good pets for people. (YPP)

FIREFLIES
What makes them glow? Learn about their evolutionary history and how to take part in a firefly census (YPP) Carpenter Pavilion

NATURE CRAFT: PINECONE BIRD FEEDERS
Meet in Windy Gap Schoolyard (Balli Shelter if rainy). Naturalist will bring all supplies & bags to carry them home.
SUNDAY, 6/19
8 am
EARLY BIRD WALK
Join naturalist Jane anytime between 8 – 9 on Laurel Fork Trail (paved) as we listen to what’s chirping. Binoculars available or bring your own. (YPP)
10 am
TREE ID WALK (YPP)
Meet naturalist on office porch for a short stroll around the building to learn some of our Holly River trees by leaf shape & bark. Make a rubbing of your favorites to take home.
1 pm
FATHERS DAY SOFTBALL GAME at our Park ballfield, past Campground 5 – the last one. We have bats, balls, & mitts, or bring your own.
Play ball!!!! Its tradition at Holly River.
