Starry Saturday Night – Delta Aquarids Meteor Shower: Chief Logan

Meet Naturalist Lauren Cole at Chief Logan Lodge at the outdoor fire pit area on July 29, 2023. Lauren will be there from 9:00 – 11:00pm Look through a computerized telescope at various celestial bodies including the moon, planets, galaxies, and more. Learn seasonal constellations and other cool facts about the night sky. Planets Mars,Mercury, and Saturn may be visible. The moon is a Waxing Gibbous moon at 88% illumination. Moon pies are available as snacks.

About Delta Aquarids
According to NASA, the Southern Delta Aquariids are active beginning in mid-July and are visible until late August with the peak on July 29-31. The meteor count is approximately 20 meteors per hour and a velocity of 25 (41 km) per second. Participants of all ages are welcome. There is no fee to participate. Social distancing is encouraged. The program can require patience that may be difficult for younger children. Dress for the weather, it could be chilly. Rain will cancel this program. Not all objects may be visible due to cloudiness or other factors, but we’ll still have a good time looking up.
