Ohhh October Outdoors: Blackwater Falls

October is a great month to get out and explore. Take advantage of these activities that are nature based at Blackwater Falls State Park, October 7 – 8, 2023.

SATURDAY, October 7, 2023
Nature Center Hours: 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

10:30 a.m. Fall Wreath Craft
Join the staff to use artificial fall flowers, metal frame, wire and ribbon to create a beautiful wreath for your door this fall. Craft fee: $25.00 while supplies last. About 1 hour.

12:00 p.m. Raptors!
Join the staff to hear about some birds of prey found in the Mountain state. Sorry, No Live Birds but still an excellent program to attend. About 45 minutes. YPP

1:00 p.m. Habitat Hike and Craft
Join the seasonal naturalist to learn about habitats and explore the area around the nature center. Then create a habitat on a paper plate and a pitcher plant. About 1 hour. YPP

2:30 p.m. Microscopy Discovery Fun
Join our recreation assistant to explore specimens from nature and have fun investigating, questioning and using observational skills all with a microscope. Microscopes are limited and may need to be shared. Not suitable for children under age. About 1hour. YPP

3:30 p.m. Shaving Cream Art
Join the staff to use shaving cream and watercolor paint to tie dye a work of art. Craft Fee: $1.00. About 30 minutes.

11:00 a.m. Halloween Fun Movie
Join the attendant for this movie about a real estate agent whose family comes face to face with ghosts. Rated PG About 1.5 hours.

1:30 p.m. Fossil Craft
In order to study the history of life on earth, paleontologists study fossil remains of the organisms that once lived here. This Fossil Find Activity invites participants to become paleontologists by finding and gently removing the sediment to expose real trilobite replicas or make their own fossils. This activity requires patience and time to uncover trilobites or create a fossil craft.. Craft fee: $2.00 YPP

3:00 p.m. Let’s Talk Turkey
Join the seasonal naturalist to hear about the wild turkey and how they became a success story for conservation. About 45 minutes. YPP
