FIREFLIES – WHAT MAKES THEM GLOW?
Learn about their evolutionary history, vampire fireflies (not in WV) and how to take part in a firefly census. (YPP)

SNAKES
Learn to identify which 2 are venomous. Meet naturalist in Windy Gap Schoolyard and she’ll convince you that all snakes are helpful. (YPP)

9 PM
DARK OF MOON NIGHT HIKE
Learn about the rods & cones in our eyes and why nocturnal animals have better night vision than humans. Laurel Fork Trail. Meet Naturalist Jane at Carpenter Pavilion. (YPP)

HIKE REVERIE TRAIL
Hike Reverie Trail with naturalist Jane, to Tecumseh Falls & back. We’ll rest at the falls and Dreamers Meadow. (2 hrs) Bring water, wear sturdy shoes. Meet on
Office porch at 9:45 AM, or at trail head across from campground entrance @ 10 AM.

BUTTERFLIES & MOTHS
Learn differences between these 2 flying insects, their life cycles; color 1 to take home if you wish. Windy Gap Schoolyard / Balli shelter if rainy

BADMINTON
Find naturalist Jane at the badminton net near the pool – we’ll hit some birdies just for fun & exercise.

Meet the fighter jets of the insect world. Learn about their amazing visual & flight abilities; make a beautiful one to take home. (YPP) Windy Gap Schoolyard / Balli Shelter if rainy.

INCREDIBLE JOURNEY
Become a water droplet as you move through all the places. Water can be on planet EARTH. Learn while having fun in Windy Gap Schoolyard (YPP)

8 PM
CAMPFIRE SING-ALONG
Find Jane at the campfire circle on Laurel Fork Trail between Carpenter Pavilion & Anderson Center. We’ll sing patriotic songs & West Virginia songs, accompanied by Jane on guitar & autoharp.

BIRD MIGRATION CHALLENGE
Meet in Windy Gap Schoolyard, choose a bird to follow a migration route, and find out the hazards birds must face to make it to their winter homes. An active way to learn by playing (YPP)

SOFTBALL GAME
What’s more American than apple pie & softball to celebrate our Independence? Meet at our Park ballfield, past campground 5. Bats, balls, mitts provided
or bring your own.

Let’s enjoy traditional state park fun at Holly River State Park.
