Mid-June Fun: Bluestone

Traditional activities planned at Bluestone State Park invites everyone to attend. Activities planned and hosted by Jonathan Lipscomb, park naturalist and educator for June 18 – 22, 2022 range from tie-dye to learning the basics of hammock camping.

1-2pm
Lighting History
Join the naturalist under the pines next to the activities building playground and learn about how we used to provide light *ypp
2-3pm
Candle making
Find this activity in the pines next to the activities building to make historic dip candles. $1 per candle *ypp
4-5pm
Hammock Camping
Naturalist Lipscomb will be in the tent area to learn the basics of hammock camping. If you’d heard about hammock camping and wondered what it means, this is the program for you!!
6-8pm
Tye dye
The swimming pool is the location to meet and to create a one of a kind souvenir. shirts are $10 for a park shirt, $5 if you bring your own.

Let’s Go Fishing
There’s nothing better than a relaxing morning fishing and learning about different types of fishing equipment atthe fishing pier below the office. Bring your own equipment or borrow one of ours All ages are welcome to join, although ages 15 up require a license which can be found at wvfish.com *ypp

Stream Walk
Meet at the office to explore and learn about the wildlife in one of our streams. Shoes are required in the stream.*ypp
1pm Nature Hike
Join me at the office for a hike along the Riverview trail. 2.5 miles each way, long pants and shoes are strongly recommended. *ypp
6-8pm

Nature Hike
Join the naturalist at the office for a rugged hike along the boundary trail. This 3 mile (one way) trail has multiple changes of elevation and includes a variety of flora and fauna. Please bring water and wear close toed shoes, long pants are recommended.

Scavenger hunt
The playground behind the activities building is the place to be to compete in a scavenger hunt around the field. *ypp

Reptile Talk
Join the naturalist in the pines behind the activities building to learn about the reptiles from our area. *ypp

Bird watching
Join me at the wildlife viewing area next to camp site 14 to view the birds that call our lake home. You’ll be surprise at the number of different birds you may see or hear at Bluestone State Park. *ypp

Nature hike
The starting place for this nature hike is at Meador bathhouse for a 1 mi (each way) hike up the overlook trail. Long pants and shoes recommended. *ypp
3pm
Giant Bubbles
So much fun!!!! Join Naturalist Lipscomb next to the Meador bathhouse to learn about and create giant bubbles
*ypp is the Young People for Parks program. These programs are focused on fun education for ages 6-16. Although, all ages are welcome to attend.
Often activities create a spark in a youth (or adults) for a new interest or hobby. Join these activities that are typically free to attend.
** All children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult
