Mid-August Activities: Cacapon

Inspired by Nature. Cacapon Resort State Park features nature-based programs including a primitive fire building, a monarch program and more. All activities and programs are free to attend and open to the public. Join Naturalist Valerie Chaney and summer team Garrett, Allen and Mary and park volunteers at the nature center (unless another location is indicated), August 15-18, 2022.

9:30AM — Paddle Boat Discovery Tour
Meet at the boat dock rentals for a morning of lake views & wildlife, binoculars provided. First come-first serve

10:00AM — Tai Chi
This class will help increase balance, flexibility, and focus on connection to mind, body, & spirit. Location near the nature center.

1:00PM — SpiderVerse
Learn the importance of spiders and how we are all connected in the web of life. Bring a flashlight for this search for spiders!

Look up! What type of cloud do you see? Join seasonal naturalist to learn about some common clouds. Clouds can tell you about what weather to expect. YPP

August 20-National Honey Bee Day (live bees presentation)

Visit the Tom Ambrose Nature Center! at Cacapon State Park. The nature center is a great stop for all ages, showcasing exhibits on the park’s history and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp Morgan 1934-41.

Other West Virginia natural exhibits include an extensive taxidermy collection of wildlife- fish, birds, fox, bobcat, mountain lion, deer, elk, and eastern grey wolf! Also, hands-on sand displays for wildlife tracks and a new geology interactive map to design your own mountains, rivers and lakes. Take a park naturalist guided hike or join the daily activities! The Nature Center is open daily from 9AM-5PM.
