Enjoy these activities July 3-4, 2022 at Blackwater Falls State Park. All Activities meet at the Nature Center unless otherwise noted. Don’t miss the Soil Tunnel at the Nature Center.

Nature Center Open:10 am—5:30 p.m.

SPECIAL ATTRACTION
THE SOIL TRAILER
10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Explore soil, water and agricultural specialty crops while learning about pollution and more inside this interactive learning exhibit. You walk through the underground and see things! Every age, young to young at heart will enjoy learning that dirt is not just dirt and that water is not to be taken for granted; it is soil, it is water and it is alive! Hands-on activities offered to kids. Its free. Its fun.

NATURAL CORDAGE & BASKET CRAFT
Join Kenny Noland to learn some basics about creating cordage from plants and weave a small basket. Craft fee: $15.00. Limited to 12 participants. Pre-Register by calling 304-259-5511.

SUNCATCHER CRAFT
Let’s “paint” a picture for your window using colorful suncatcher paint. Craft fee: $1.00 -$8.00

3:00 p.m.
BACKYARD BUGS
About 30 minutes. YPP

3:45 p.m. BUG WALK
Meet Kenny to learn how to identify insects, their importance and perhaps go outside to look for insects. Create a glowing firefly during the program. Craft fee: $2.00 YPP

PAINT A BANK CRAFT
Let’s paint a turtle or pig to hold your cold cash. Craft fee: $3.00

FRIENDSHIP BRACELET
Brittany invites you to se embroidery floss to weave together a bracelet. Not recommended for very young children. FREE

1:00 p.m.
JEWELRY CRAFT
Join the staff to create a pendant necklace for $1.00, Paracord bracelet for $3.00, arrowhead necklace $1.00.

2:30 p.m.
BINGO
Enjoy a fun game of BINGO. Small novelty prize to winner(s). About 1 hour.

The YPP program is Young People for Parks with a focus on nature education for youth 6-16.
Participating in three YPP activities qualifies the youth for a certificate. Ask the naturalist about this program and other recognitions.

Since 1978, the Harold Walters Nature Center at Blackwater Falls State Park has been facilitating environmental education through the park’s vast natural resources by offering a variety of free to low cost programs designed to assist visitors to learn more about the natural world.
