Cacapon wraps up the last weekend of July with a variety of great nature based activities July 28 – 30, 2023. From hogwart adaptations, looking for a Monarch’s eggs, to Irish Road Bowling, these neat activities and others are conducted or begin at the nature center unless noted.

10:00AM Hogwarts School of Wizardry
Are you a Harry Potter fan? Discover some very special animal survival adaptations that are almost magical. Then design your own wand and spell to create your own magical being. YPP
11:30AM WV Snakes
Learn helpful ways to tell if a snake is venomous or non-venomous. Learn some fun facts about common WV snakes. (No Live Snakes in program) YPP
1:30PM Monarch Egg Survey
Search for a monarch egg on the milkweed plants. Use a magnifying glass to help conduct a Monarch Joint Venture Survey. YPP
3:00PM How do Plants Grow?
Learn about what plants need to grow and the lifecycle of a flowering plant, followed by a fun board game. YPP
4:00-6:00PM Welcome to Cacapon!
Meet the Park Naturalist at the lodge to answer any general park questions you may have or find out what amazing recreation and nature activities Cacapon has to offer. Welcome to
Cacapon Resort State Park!
7:45PM Evening Stroll
Meet park naturalists at the lodge front desk. Meander down the edge of the lodge lawn towards the wildflower fields following our new Blue Bird Trail. A great opportunity for photos.
8:45PM Glow Stick Walk on the Golf Course
Meet park naturalists on the outdoor patio of the new lodge for a fun way to end the evening! Glow sticks, necklaces & bracelets provided.

Learn Cacapon’s common birds by sight & sound. Followed by a short walk around the picnic area. YPP
11:00AM Mammals of the Month
In the spot light: black bear, beaver & bobcat. Followed by a make & take wildlife mold of your choice. YPP
2:00PM Cacapon Tie-Dye
Make & take home your own tie-dye shirt. Purchase Cacapon State Park T-shirt here at
the nature center for $10.
3:00PM Stream Study
Discover what makes a stream healthy and what unlikely critters may be hiding in plain sight! You may want to bring shoes to get wet. YPP
7:00PM Irish Road Bowling
Enjoy an afternoon of bowling! If you haven’t tried this sport, come out and see what it is all about. Check it out on WV.IRB.COM .
8:00PM Badminton
Join us at the nature center lawn for this fun game.
9:00PM Firefly Frenzy
Did you know that WV has 21+ species of lightning bugs/fireflies? They can be differentiated among one another by the color of their flash and the pattern of their flashes. We’ll spend a little time going over their differences and then going for a night hike and see if we can find a few species. YPP

Come and visit the Tom Ambrose Nature Center! The nature center is a great stop for all ages, showcasing exhibits on the park history and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp Morgan 1934-41. Other West Virginia natural exhibits include an extensive taxidermy
collection of wildlife- fish, birds, fox, bobcat, mountain lion, deer, elk, and eastern grey wolf!
Also, hands-on sand displays for wildlife tracks and a new geology interactive map to design your own mountains, rivers and lakes. Take a park naturalist guided hike or join the daily
activities!
