Hello October!: Blackwater Falls - October 1, 2022

A deciduous forest accented by evergreens greets visitors at Blackwater Falls State Park the weekend of October 1-2, 2022. Enjoy these planned activities which begin or conducted at the nature center unless indicated.

SATURDAY, October 1, 2022
Nature Center Open: 10:30 a.m. -5:00 p.m.

9:30 a.m.
Elakala Trail Walk
Join the naturalist at the front entrance to Blackwater Lodge for this walk along a section of one of our most popular trails. Along the trail you will have an opportunity to view the first cascade of Elakala and a little more about the falls and some facts about nature along the walk. About one hour. One mile. YPP

11:00 a.m.
Mason Jar Craft
Join the staff for this easy craft. Use a couple Thanksgiving Blessing or Nativity Scene decals on a gold or silver crackled mason jar. Craft fee: $5.00.

2:00 p.m.
History Campfire
Join the seasonal naturalist to enjoy the flames of an outdoor fire as he tells the history of the area. About 1 hour. YPP

4:00 p.m.
Mammals Nature Film & Bat Craft
Enjoy hearing about folklore and amazing facts about our favorite furry animals. About 30 minutes. Scratch Bat Craft fee: $1.25. YPP

Terrific Trees
Why are trees so terrific? Discover some answers to that question with seasonal naturalist, Kenny, on this walk along some park trails . About one mile. About 1 hour. YPP

Join the staff to use a tree cookie to create a unique piece of art. Craft fee: $2.00. YPP

Movie Time
Enjoy this film about a boy who seeks a Truffula Tree in order to impress a girl and a grumpy creature who speaks for the trees. Rated PG. 1 1/2 hours.
