It’s March 2022 and greening in West Virginia is beginning. Several state parks across West Virginia host a Green Day Hike to welcome spring or to tip a hat to St. Paddy.
The Green Day Hike featured at Blackwater Falls begins from the Blackwater Falls Overflow/Bus parking area near the main park intersection. The hike will be on River Road Trail and starts at 10:00AM. This hike meanders along the Blackwater River on an old railroad grade to the town of Davis. This is an out and back hike of about 3½ miles with limited stops for interpretation. Sturdy shoes or hiking boots are necessary. Packing a water bottle and a snack is recommended. The hike is lead by Park Naturalist Paulita Cousin, NAI/CIG. Hikers completing the hike receive a Green Day Hike shamrock patch. There is no charge to participate. Go hike!
