Farm-to-Table at Hawks Nest State Park takes a twist in 2023. with a Friday cocktail social and Saturday Farm-to-Table meal.  The Vagabond Chef Matt Welsh is preparing cocktails and our Farm-to-Table meal to create an extraordinary Memorial Weekend event at Hawks Nest.

Friday, May 26, 2023 features a Meet & Greet cocktail social from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. with ‘The Vagabond Chef’ Matt Welsh. This social features beverages from Bridge Brew Works of Fayetteville, WV. Dinner Friday is on your own with dining specials offered at Hawks Nest Restaurant.  

The Farm-to-Table meal is Saturday, May 27, 2023 with Chef Matt Welsh overseeing the preparation and tastings of Hawks Knob Ciders paired with a flavorful seasonal menu. The evening dining experience begins at 5:00pm. with a cocktail social featuring beverages from Hawk Knob Appalachian Hard Ciders. The Farm-to-Table dinner begins around 6:15 p.m. Drawings for prizes are at 8:00pm. Prizes include golf, activities, camping and overnight accommodations at Hawks Nest and other West Virginia State Parks, and a Special Farm-to-Table t-shirt.  

The Farm-to-Table menu for Saturday, May 27 features: 

• Bridge Brew Works Beer Bread with Beer Pimento Cheese
• Churched-up Soup Beans w/cornbread dust, spicy sweet pickled onions, and candied lardon
• Spring Salad with ramp marinated feta dressing
• Five Springs Farm Fry Spice Crusted Ribeye over blue cheese creamed spinach
• Smoked Pork Loin over cider-braised cabbage with Hawk Knob BBQ sauce
• Vinegar Pie with blueberry relish

This spring Farm-to-Table evening experience is staged at the Museum Event Center and requires advance reservations due to limited seating. The event can host up to 50 individuals. The event center is located at the historic area of Hawks Nest State Park and pays tribute to the 1930s and workmanship of the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Folks taking advantage of an overnight package should anticipate a very special weekend.  The Farm-to-Table weekend at Hawks Nest State Park for two includes: Friday cocktail social and meet and greet Chef Welsh at Hawks Nest Lodge, overnight accommodations at Hawks Nest Lodge Friday, May 27 and Saturday, May 28, Breakfast Saturday and Sunday, May 29, a Saturday Jetboat Excursion on the New River (transportation is provided to the marina), special nature-based activities, and visiting other aspect of Hawks Nest State Park, such as the overview in the Historic area at Hawks Nest. Weekend Farm-to-Table reservations also receive a special Farm-to-Table t-shirt and gift shop discounts. Overnight package for two individuals is $649, inclusive of taxes and gratuities.
