Compass Use, Bears and Blackwater Falls

A popular program at Blackwater Falls State Park is about ‘bear awareness’. Take advantage of the American Black Bear program presented by the park naturalist and more October 3 – 4, 2022. Planned activities begin or are conducted at the nature center unless indicated.

MONDAY, October 3, 2022
Nature Center Open: 10:30 a.m. -5:00 p.m.

11:00 a.m.
FBI Hike
Join the seasonal naturalist, Kenny, to become an investigator in search of “criminal activity” within the natural world. About one hour, a little walking. YPP

1:00 p.m.
Finding Your Way
Kenny Noland conducts a program about how to use a map and compass. When gps fails old school orienteering may save the day. About 45 minutes. YPP

2:00 p.m.
Compass Craft
Use markers and other materials to create a compass. Craft fee: $2.00

First Snow in the Woods Kids Film

Finger-painting
Use finger paint paper and paint to create a work of art for the family fridge. Everyone is welcomed. Fee free and fun!

AMERICAN BLACK BEARS
Park Naturalist, Paulita Cousin is passionate about help people understand what to do if they see a black bear in the wild. Black bears are a very interesting species and understanding them is important to your safety as well as the safety of the bear. This program is designed to create a better understanding of the black bears and how to interface with them in a positive manner.
Please, join us for this presentation about West Virginia’s state mammal. Everyone welcome. No fee to attend. Please ask questions. About 1 hour YPP
