He has an extensive background in hospitality, is a certified executive chef, and received the WV Chef of the Year award in 2007. With an old family recipe, he started selling old-fashioned apple butter straight from the copper kettle at the Clay County Apple Festival in 1995, and has been in the catering business since 1998. In 2021, Duane opened Legacy Food Market and Bakery. The market, which is located in his hometown of Indore, was rebuilt on the site of his grandfather’s store and has become a regional destination market that strives to use and sell locally and regionally sourced ingredients and products.
