Activities at Lost River State Park are about creatures and critters that make Lost River home. Visit the nature center or the Lee House, plus these activities at Lost River State Park, August 30 to September 3, 2023. Activities are free to attend unless indicated and open to the public. When visiting Lost River take the opportunity to attend a planned activity. You’ll learn more about the park, wildlife and history of the area.

Meet at the nature center and learn about our threatened Eastern Box Turtle. It’s the only land turtle in West Virginia.

We’ll take an evening walk and look for bats, owls, and other night creatures. Bring a flashlight and meet at the pool Bath House. Let’s learn how nocturnal animals get around in the dark.

We’ll search Howard’s Lick for wildlife and learn some stream ecology! Meet by the Pool Bath House. You’ll get your feet wet.

4:00 – Nature Lab – Owl Pellets
For the whole family. Join us at the nature center to solve a mystery. We will dissect owl pellets to see what he or she ate for dinner! Learn about owl habits as we investigate.

7:00 – 8:00PM – Campfire Time!
The fire pit is across from the Rec Hall. We’ll have a fire going and some stories and tales.

About the Lee House
The history of the remarkable past of Lost River State Park includes “Light Horse” Harry Lee, the Lee Sulphur Springs Resort and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). Stop by the Lee House to learn more. Follow the sign by Cabin 1 & 2 across from the swimming pool.

Programs planned and offered at Lost River State Park are for the whole family. Children 12 and younger should be accompanied by an adult. If rain or thunderstorms occur our outdoor programs are canceled, but the indoor programs at the nature center will occur.
