An Awesome Weekend: Cacapon

An awesome weekend about the outdoors! Cacapon Resort State Park weekend activities include a medicinal weed walk, monarchs, bluebirds, Irish Road Bowling, and National Honey Bee Day. All activities and programs are free to attend, unless indicated, and open to the public. Join Naturalist Valerie Chaney and summer team Garrett, Allen and Mary and park volunteers at the nature center (unless another location is indicated), August 19-20, 2022.

9:30AM — Medicinal Weed Walk
Join local Berkeley Springs based herbalist and educator for to learn about identifying and learning about medicinal herbs. No foraging in parks, so bring your camera/notebook. Suitable for all ages and ability levels.
11:30AM — Magnificent Monarchs
Discover the monarchs many life stages and life journey. Explore the milkweed for eggs and caterpillars. YPP
1:30PM — Our WV Clouds
Look up! What type of cloud do you see? Join seasonal naturalist to learn about some common clouds. YPP
4:00-6:00PM — Welcome to Cacapon!
Meet the Park Naturalist at the lodge to answer any general park questions you may have or find out what amazing recreation and nature activities Cacapon has to offer. Welcome to Cacapon Resort State Park!
7:00PM — Irish Road Bowling
Join in for a fun game that originated in Ireland! Check it out on wvirb.com
8:00PM — Badminton
Fun for the whole family. Park at the tennis court parking lot.

A VERY SPECIAL PROGRAM — 10:30AM
National Honey Bee Day!!!!
Join local honey bee keeper David Martz as he explains the life of a beekeeper. Live bees including one of the queen bees. Park gazebo.
1:00PM — Blue Bird Boxes
Join the park naturalist and Potomac Valley Master Naturalist to make a blue bird house and learn about the eastern bluebird. Limited Seats. RSVP to allenjmiller2022@gmail.com. $10 Donation to make and take home OR enjoy building the blue bird home and leave it for the park to create a new and our upcoming bluebird trail.
7:00PM — Wildflower Nature Walk
Meet at the front desk of the lodge for a walk into the wildflower meadows.
8:30PM — Cacapon Campfire
Meet us at the campfire circle next to the nature center for campfire songs, stories and treats.
Visit the Tom Ambrose Nature Center! at Cacapon State Park. The nature center is a great stop for all ages, showcasing exhibits on the park’s history and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp Morgan 1934-41.
Other West Virginia natural exhibits include an extensive taxidermy collection of wildlife- fish, birds, fox, bobcat, mountain lion, deer, elk, and eastern grey wolf! Also, hands-on sand displays for wildlife tracks and a new geology interactive map to design your own mountains, rivers and lakes. Take a park naturalist guided hike or join the daily activities! The Nature Center is open daily from 9AM-5PM.
