This chillier weather that just arrived brings with it some of our favorite activities. Relaxing by a fireplace, fishing, hiking, jumping in leaves, scenic train rides and most importantly keeping warm in a cozy cabin. If this sounds like the perfect activity you’re in luck, West Virginia State Parks and Forests have 19 parks and forests that offer cabins that all come equipped with incredible views, amenities and experiences of a lifetime.

Potomac Highlands

The scenic Potomac Highlands region of the state has several parks and forests with cabins just waiting for you and your family to visit. Blackwater Falls State Park, Cass Scenic Railroad State Park, Canaan Valley Resort State Park, Lost River State Park, Kumbrabrow State Forest, Seneca State Forest and Watoga State Park all have cabins perfect for your needs.

Looking for stunning views? Try the cabins at Lost River State Park, which have fireplaces, come fully furnished and allow you to discover the Cranny Crow overlook on top of Big Ride Mountain where you can view five different counties. Or maybe you are seeking a place like Canaan Valley Resort State Park with outdoor adventure at every corner. The resort offers two, three and four-bedroom cabins and cottages with easy access to biking and hiking trails, fishing, cross-county and downhill skiing, snowtubing, ice skating and more.

New River-Greenbrier Valley

The beautiful New River-Greenbrier Valley region is another area with many cabin options perfect for keeping warm in.  Babcock State Park, Bluestone State Park, Pipestem Resort State Park, Twin Falls Resort State Park and Greenbrier State Forest are all beautiful parks equipped with incredibly cozy cabins. Stay in one of Bluestone State Parks 26 modern and fully furnished cabins and take in the scenic beauty of Bluestone Lake. For incredible views and outdoor activities stay in the rustic cabins at Pipestem Resort State Park.

Mountain Lakes

Visit the state’s serene Mountain Lakes region and you will find Stonewall Resort State Park and Holly River State Park. Stonewall Resort State Park is a secluded retreat tucked in to the hills alongside Stonewall Jackson Lake. While Holly River State Park is the state’s second largest state park, is surrounded by heavily forested mountain and has ten fully furnished rustic cabins constructed of natural stone and logs. Hatfield-McCoy Mountains

Cabwaylingo State Forest is located on 8,123 heavily forested acres in the Hatfield-McCoy Mountains region and is an ideal vacation retreat for all. After a day spent biking, hiking, fishing and being one with nature the forests 15 cabins are the perfect place to rest up especially in front of their rustic stone fireplaces. A trip to Cabwaylingo State Forest is always a good idea thanks to its stunning views and cozy accommodations. Or stay in one of Chief Logan State Parks four-room cabins. Eastern Panhandle
