Tucked quietly away in the mountains of southern West Virginia, Bluestone State park is a perfect retreat for adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts looking to enjoy spectacular fall colors and fresh, crisp mountain air. The glowing autumn leaves reflected in the still, crystalline waters of Bluestone lake greet you in the quiet fall morning as you exit your idyllic lakeside cabin for a day filled of beauty and adventure.

Winding Trails and Stunning Views

It is no secret that the West Virginia landscape comes alive in the fall months. Around mid-October, the mountainsides emblazon crimson and gold. This is the best time of year to hike through mountain trails underneath a glowing canopy of trees, hearing the crunch of leaves beneath your feet. Bluestone park has over eight miles of trails, some with gorgeous scenic views of the Bluestone and New Rivers. Clear your mind along sinuous trails and even catch a glimpse of local wildlife. The Cabin Trail accesses a popular feeding area for white-tailed deer and wild turkey.

Reel in some memories at Bluestone Lake

The temperatures may be dropping, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some time on the water. The 2,040 acre lake at Bluestone was created by the Bluestone Dam, which was authorized by presidential proclamation and approved by an act of Congress in the 1930s in order to control flooding in the area. Now, Bluestone Lake is perfect for fishing. The lake is a prime bass, catfish, crappie and bluegill fishing spot. Just make sure you have the proper licensure before setting out with your fishing poles. License and stamps may be purchased online.

Picturesque Cabins

The cabins at Bluestone State Park are located in a quiet wooded area of the park. A few of the 26 cabins even have porches that offer gorgeous views of Bluestone Lake. Cabins accommodate two to eight people, making them perfect a romantic fall retreat or getaway for the whole family. Additionally, some cabins are pet friendly, so your furry companion can join you on your Bluestone adventures. Don’t miss out on a fall getaway, book your cabin today!
