Oktoberfest Pipestem Style – Sept. 14 | Pipestem Resort State Park

Prost! Oktoberfest is coming to Pipestem Resort State Park where a new craft beer from Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company will be released. This outdoor event is held at the Pipestem Amphitheater and Shelter A and features traditional German food prepared by the chefs of Pipestem, live music, and of course beer tastings.

Appalachian Fall Fest – Sept. 14 | Tygart Lake State Park

Those mild weather days between summer and fall are an ideal time to enjoy a breezy day out on the lake. Plan your visit the weekend of Sept. 14 for Tygart Lake State Park’s Appalachian Fall Fest. The event features heritage craft demonstrations and an artisan booth. Visitors can watch apple butter being made or join in on a hayride.

Accommodations include a full-service lodge and several guest cabins that overlook the picturesque lake. The park’s campground is open through the end of fall. Tygart Lake has a reputation as one of the best bass fishing sites in the area. (A valid West Virginia fishing license is required and can be purchased at www.wvfish.com.) Fishing boats and pontoons are available to rent at the marina. The park’s five hiking trails feature scenic views of the lake. Nearby, Valley Falls State Park offers 18 miles of trail suitable for mountain bikes.

Country Roads Festival – Sept. 14-15 |Hawks Nest State Park

Take me home, Country Roads Festival—to Hawks Nest State Park on Sept. 14-15. The event features arts and crafts vendors, live music, and of course, loads of great food.

Hawks Nest Lodge sits on the rim of the beautiful New River Gorge, where visitors can enjoy an aerial tram ride to the marina below, and even take a jet boat ride to the base of the New River Bridge. Fishing opportunities abound in Hawks Nest Lake. Mill Creek, which borders the southeastern part of the park, is stocked with trout in spring and fall. The park also has 8 miles of hiking trails.

Fall Festival and Pig Roast – Sept. 21 | Camp Creek State Park and Forest

Watch apple butter and cornmeal being made, browse Appalachian crafts and displays and enjoy some live music at the Fall Festival and Pig Roast Sept. 21 at Camp Creek State Park and Forest.

Known for its beautiful waterfalls and outstanding camping facilities (including a horse camp!), Camp Creek is a great place to get out and experience the fall scenery. The park has 33 miles of hiking trails—27 miles of which are open to mountain bikers. Two trout-fishing streams, Camp Creek and Mash Fork, run through the park.   

37th Annual Lumberjackin’ Bluegrassin’ Jamboree – Sept. 21-22 | Twin Falls Resort State Park

College timber sports teams compete in exciting events like ax throwing, log rolling, crosscut saw and more Sept. 21-22 at the Lumberjackin’ Bluegrassin’ Jamboree at Twin Falls Resort State Park. The event also includes live music, hayrides, arts and crafts vendors and more.

Accommodations include a full-service lodge and guest cabins. The park’s campground is open year-round. Home of the iconic Pioneer Farm—a restored, turn-of-the-20th century homestead, Twin Falls also has an 18-hole golf course and more than 25 miles of hiking trails.
