Spacious yurts already furnished with beds—just bring your sleeping bag!
Are you a fan of camping but don’t enjoy struggling to put up a tent? Perhaps you’re more of a “glamper” than a camper?
Come to Tomlinson Run State Park, where the only camping gear you need to bring is your bedding! Set at the tip of the Northern Panhandle, West Virginia’s “top park” has four yurts available for rent in season.
“Great little state park tucked in the mountains of the Northern Panhandle. Sweet pool open Memorial thru Labor weekends — with water slide, diving board and separate toddler pool. There is decent fishing here, with summer fishing derbies for the kids in the lake area. Rent paddle boats or canoes. Pet (on leash) friendly. Great hiking. Horseback riding trails as well. Camping sites and yurt rental available. Yurts are nice, as are the mostly wooded camping spots.”

A unique overnight experience
Used for centuries by nomads in Central Asia, yurts have gained popularity in the United States in recent years. These portable, circular dwellings are made of latticework and covered in fabric. They’re tall enough to stand up in and even have windows and doors. A clear dome over the raised roof ring allows sunlight to pour into your camping paradise.
The yurts are furnished with bunk beds, a cooler, propane stove and cookware, with a picnic table and fire ring outside. Two bathhouses, laundry facilities and a convenience store are all located nearby.
Additional accommodations at Tomlinson Run include three fully furnished camper cabins and a 55-site campground open spring through fall, weather permitting.
“Well-maintained large state park in the Ohio River Valley — offering hiking, camping, scenic drives, autumn leaves and mountain views. I grew up in the Ohio Valley near here but only visited Tomlinson Run for the swimming as a child. On my last visit to the area, made a longer visit and explored. Was surprised to find how expansive it is, with view of a wide creek valley and curvy scenic drive to an area that must be a high point. Highly recommend for hiking.”
