DESCRIPTION:Overlook observation deck from 1-3 p.m. at Cacapon Resort State Park.Join us at Cacapon Mountain overlook (5 miles past the nature center to watch migrating birds. Migrating birds will vary according to the month. Wildlife that could be spotted includes vultures\, ravens\, crows and monarch butterflies. \n\n\n\nJoin us this time or all the birds of prey watch series dates listed. Binoculars will be provided\, or bring your own. Dress for the weather\, but this event will be canceled due to rain\, fog or snow.The species and number of birds will be recorded on an eBird hotspot at the overlook. These bird counts help Cornell Lab of Ornithology obtain a more accurate yearly bird count by location. \n\n\n\nFor all October dates\, meet at the overlook; for all November and December dates\, meet at the locked gate near the Batt Parking area. SUMMARY:WonderFall Hike: Blackwater Falls State Park
DESCRIPTION:Take in the fall colors with the seasonal naturalist beginning at the nature center for this 1.5-mile loop through a northern hardwood forest on Balsam Fir Trail. Well-behaved and leashed pets are welcome to attend this activity with their owner. Complete the entire trail with the naturalist to earn your WonderFall hiking patch. This hike will take about 70 minutes. The program is open to all ages. Sturdy shoes recommended. \n\n\n\nThe trail has little change in elevation but has areas that contain roots\, rocks\, and mud. This program qualifies for one of the three required activities for the Young People for Parks program for youth ages 6-16 to earn the Young People for Parks Patch or rattlesnake pin. Pre-registration is not required. Ask the nature center staff about these programs at (304) 259-5511.

This meal includes: butter lettuce salad with smoked cheddar\, orchard apples\, carrots\, bacon\, candied walnuts and a lemon. Enjoy whiskey dijon vinaigrette as well as fried green tomatoes with pimento goat cheese. \n\n\n\nThere will also be wild mushroom bisque with wild honey crostini points\, stuffed pork tenderloin with dates\, walnuts\, cranberries and golden raisins in a maple mustard crust. Try roasted rosemary baby potatoes\, parsnips and carrots. \n\n\n\nYou’ll also enjoy trying boeuf en croute\, a slice of local beef topped with gorgonzola cheese and wrapped in a flakey crust – baked and drizzled with a berry bacon jam. DESCRIPTION:Available for two nights only\, October 10-11\, 2025\, take a step back in time and experience the enchantment of Blennerhassett Island and its magnificent mansion much as Harman and Margaret Blennerhassett did over 200 years ago. Illuminated by hundreds of candles and lanterns\, the island is transformed into an 18th-century party\, featuring docents in period costume\, 18th-century dance performances\, Appalachian music\, local folklore and many other activities. Tickets are $42 per adult\, $32 per child age 4-12. Children 3 & under are free. Your ticket includes the round-trip boat ride\, horse-drawn wagon ride and mansion by candlelight tours. 🕯️ \n\n\n\nComplete your evening with a harvest supper on the island\, available as an add on purchase. DESCRIPTION:Take in the fall colors of the mountain state and earn a WonderFall hiking patch! Hike the Monongaseneka Trail to the Overlook on this 5 mile round trip. Meet the park naturalist at the Monongaseneka trail head just above cabin #2 along Island Lick. This historic CCC built trail climbs 2.5 miles to a mountain top overlook with Greenbrier River views. This trail is moderately difficult with some steep inclines. Please wear hiking appropriate footwear and a hiking stick is recommended.

SUMMARY:WonderFall Hike: Blackwater Falls State Park
DESCRIPTION:Join the seasonal naturalist at the nature center for this 3-mile out-and-back hike along the top of the Blackwater River Canyon on Pase Point. Well-behaved and leashed pets are welcome to attend this activity with their owner. Complete the entire trail with the naturalist to earn your WonderFall hiking patch. This hike will take around 2 hours. The program is open to all ages. Sturdy shoes recommended. The trail has little change in elevation but has areas that contain roots\, rocks\, and mud. This program qualifies for one of the three required activities for the Young People for Parks program for youth ages 6-16 to earn the Young People for Parks Patch or rattlesnake pin. \n\n\n\nPre-registration is not required. These annual events at West Virginia’s state park restaurants create a unique summer-time experience you don’t want to miss! \n\n\n\nMark your calendars now for the North Bend State Park Farm to Table Dinner on October 11\, 2025\, with seating at 6 p.m. This year’s event will be held at Shelter 4\, which is a very short walk from the lodge. \n\n\n\nAdult tickets are $50 each\, children 12 and under are $35\, and the little ones 2 or younger are free. DESCRIPTION:Come out to Pipestem Resort State Park and be part of the first ever “Rocket Fest at Pipestem.” Special guests at the park will include October Sky Rocket Boy\, New York Times bestselling author Homer Hickam and fellow McDowell County Rocket Boy Roy Lee Cooke. \n\n\n\nThe day will start at 6 a.m. with WTNJ 105.9 FM morning show “Your Morning Cup with Bob” broadcasting from the McKeever Lodge Lobby. \n\n\n\nFrom 9:30am until 11:30 a.m. Homer and Roy Lee will have two question and answer sessions for high school students in the Faulconer Room of McKeever Lodge. An additional session\, open to the community and home school students will be held at 2 a.m. in the Faulconer Room. \n\n\n\nAt 5pm\, join Homer and Roy Lee at Pipestem’s Championship Golf Course on the patio of Mulligans for a rocket launch. Fat Bottom Coolers\, Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company and the Pipestem Foundation will be showcasing the newly released GVBC beverage\, Oktober Sky Oktoberfest 2025 which is a classic German Märzen style beer. During this open to the community gathering\, Mulligans Clubhouse will be full with live music and fun from 6:00PM – until 8 a.m. \n\n\n\nAlso\, starting at 5 p.m.\, The Bluestone Dining Room at McKeever Lodge will feature the COALWOOD WAY BUFFET in honor of our two Coalwood Special Guests. DESCRIPTION:Overlook observation deck from 1-3 p.m. at Cacapon Resort State Park.Join us at Cacapon Mountain overlook (5 miles past the nature center to watch migrating birds. Migrating birds will vary according to the month. Wildlife that could be spotted includes vultures\, ravens\, crows and monarch butterflies. \n\n\n\nJoin us this time or all the birds of prey watch series dates listed. Binoculars will be provided\, or bring your own. Dress for the weather\, but this event will be canceled due to rain\, fog or snow.The species and number of birds will be recorded on an eBird hotspot at the overlook. These bird counts help Cornell Lab of Ornithology obtain a more accurate yearly bird count by location. \n\n\n\nFor all October dates\, meet at the overlook; for all November and December dates\, meet at the locked gate near the Batt Parking area. DESCRIPTION:Join the park naturalist’s for a 2 mile hike along Cacapon Mountain fire road. Park at the Cacapon Mountain Overlook area and along the road for additional parking. A group photo will be taken at Cacapon Mountain Overlook\, the highest peak in the eastern panhandle\, near 2100 ft elevation. This is also the location of the Almost Heaven West Virginia swing. The fire road provides breathtaking views of the area and fall colors. This easy hike will be on a mostly level fire road\, but dress with sturdy shoes and for cool morning weather. Dogs on a leash are welcome. Everyone earns a WonderFall Walk patch!

DESCRIPTION:WonderFall Hike: Country Roads – Meet the Naturalist at Park Headquarters for a walk along the road and into the woods. We will look for evidence of Pipestem’s pre-park history. Pictures and stories will be shared while we enjoy the beauty of the fall foliage around us. We will also learn about plants we encounter along the way and how they tie into history as well. This walk is about 1 mile long and takes approximately 1.5 hrs. And if you would like to walk a little further\, we can also visit a cemetery where some of the folks you will hear about are buried. And as a bonus\, participants of the WonderFall Hike will receive a special patch.
