These annual events at West Virginia’s state park restaurants create a unique summer-time experience you won’t want to miss! \n\n\n\nMark your calendars for the Holly River State Park Farm to Table Dinner on Sept. 10\, 2025\, starting at 6 p.m. in The Cookhouse Restaurant! Overnight accommodations are available for this event. \n\n\n\nThe Cookhouse is likely the most unique full-service restaurant in the West Virginia State Park system. This exclusive event is small\, intimate\, and cozy; tickets always sell out quickly. \n\n\n\nRestaurant operator Cristi Vason has curated a locally sourced menu that complements the beauty and simplicity of Holly River. The main attractions are homemade broccoli cheese soup in a homemade bread bowl\, fried chicken\, mashed potatoes with homemade gravy\, green beans\, mac-n-cheese\, glazed local carrots\, and fresh-made rolls and biscuits. Homemade cookies\, brownies\, mini-cobblers\, pie tarts and ice cream for dessert\, and locally sourced coffee are also available! \n\n\n\nReservations are required. These annual events at West Virginia’s state park restaurants create a unique summer-time experience you don’t want to miss! \n\n\n\nOn Sept. 12th from 5 p.m. to close\, the Bluestone Dining Room at Pipestem Resort State Park is featuring its annual farm to table buffet. Overlooking the breathtaking Bluestone Gorge\, this is a dinner you don’t want to miss. Reservations are recommended\, but not required\, so wear your stretchy pants and get ready to indulge in a locally sourced bonanza of flavor. The price is $30 per person for adults. \n\n\n\nThis year’s buffet includes: rabbit pot pie\, venison meatloaf\, honey glazed BBQ ribs\, WV Trout with sautéed almonds and grapes\, mashed red potatoes with sour cream and dill\, skillet glazed rainbow carrots with local WV honey and rosemary\, fried green tomatoes\, Italian green beans with bacon\, broccoli and cheese casserole\, balsamic brussel sprouts\, sweet and fluffy cornbread\, southern coleslaw\, loaded potato salad\, broccoli salad\, pickled deviled eggs with dill sprigs and jalapeño and shoofly pie. \n\n\n\nAfter dinner\, retreat to the Bluestone lounge for a wide selection of domestic and local beers and wines. SUMMARY:Birds of Prey Migration Watch Series: Cacapon Resort State Park
DESCRIPTION:Overlook observation deck from 1-3 p.m. at Cacapon Resort State Park.Join us at Cacapon Mountain overlook (5 miles past the nature center to watch migrating birds. Migrating birds will vary according to the month. Wildlife that could be spotted includes vultures\, ravens\, crows and monarch butterflies. \n\n\n\nJoin us this time or all the birds of prey watch series dates listed. Binoculars will be provided\, or bring your own. Dress for the weather\, but this event will be canceled due to rain\, fog or snow.The species and number of birds will be recorded on an eBird hotspot at the overlook. These bird counts help Cornell Lab of Ornithology obtain a more accurate yearly bird count by location. \n\n\n\nFor all October dates\, meet at the overlook; for all November and December dates\, meet at the locked gate near the Batt Parking area. SUMMARY:WonderFall Hike: Blackwater Falls State Park
DESCRIPTION:Take in the fall colors with the seasonal naturalist beginning at the nature center for this 1.5-mile loop through a northern hardwood forest on Balsam Fir Trail. Well-behaved and leashed pets are welcome to attend this activity with their owner. Complete the entire trail with the naturalist to earn your WonderFall hiking patch. This hike will take about 70 minutes. The program is open to all ages. Sturdy shoes recommended. \n\n\n\nThe trail has little change in elevation but has areas that contain roots\, rocks\, and mud. This program qualifies for one of the three required activities for the Young People for Parks program for youth ages 6-16 to earn the Young People for Parks Patch or rattlesnake pin. Pre-registration is not required. Ask the nature center staff about these programs at (304) 259-5511.
