DESCRIPTION:A fun class with a purpose is planned at Blackwater Falls State Park\, July 6\, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Blackwater Falls lodge. Build a Bluebird Nest Box is led by master naturalist\, Sam Muncy. \nMake your own bluebird nesting box from a precut kit to take home. Participants will use a screw driver and wood screws to assemble boxes together. Instructor Sam Muncy will assist with assembly as needed. A template and instructions for cutting and making more boxes is part of the program and how to attract bluebirds. There is no charge to make a bluebird nesting box. Plan on two hours for this workshop and learning experience. \nMuncy’s powerpoint presentation of bluebird sightings across West Virginia is a treat and can include your photos. DESCRIPTION:The annual “Bug Bash” Weekend at Chief Logan State Park Lodge is July 7-9\, 2023. Assistant Superintendent Lauren Cole invites all ages to join her for some excitement about fascinating wildlife commonly known as “bugs.” “We are not bashing or mashing anything. We are learning about arthropods\, butterflies\, moths\, fireflies and other insects in a fun way” says Cole. “Bug Bash” is Friday\, July 7 and Saturday\, July 8\, 2023 from 8:00 – 10:00 pm. \n“Bug Bash” weekend activities may include a big bug jar\, insect luring\, arthropod jeopardy\, butterfly bag toss and Monarch masquerade craft\, firefly glow activity and gardening for pollinators.  \nActivities are in or begin in the Conference Room at Chief Logan Lodge. There will be an insect luring light set up in the gazebo or the back patio where we hope to discover moths and other more nocturnal insects. DESCRIPTION:What a great afternoon program featured on Blennerhassett Island\, Three Rivers Avian Center (TRAC) is live at Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park on Saturday July 9\, 2023 at 1:30p.m. The educational birds are a great opportunity to learn what birds say “who cooks for me\, who cooks for you all?” as well as meeting other raptors. \nThis nature program is all about raptors native to West Virginia: hawks\, eagles\, falcons\, and owls. You’ll learn about the habitat\, diet and behavior of each bird presented\, the most common causes of injury to each species and the laws protecting these special birds. This program is scheduled at several state parks in 2023. \nThere is no fee to attend. Open to the public\, the program lasts about an hour and is staged on the lawn area on the island. Park staff can direct visitors to the areas. Questions are welcomed. This is a family friendly event. An excellent presentation for all ages. Reenactment participants set up camp and prepare for battle Cannon and gun fire echo across the park at different times during the event. This is truly a lovely hike and view. \n1pm owl dietsWe’ll learn about owl diets today. Meet behind the events building to learn more about the local owl population while we dissect some owl pellets and discover what they like to eat. *ypp \n*ypp are young people for parks programs.
