From nature walks and butterflies to fire building and a workshop creating cordage from plants it’s all about nature’s wonders. All activities meet at the Nature Center unless otherwise noted. \nFriday\, July 15\, 2022\nNature Center Open: 10:30 a.m. —5:00 p.m. \n10:30 a.m.\nMASON JAR CRAFT\nIt’s craft time. Stickers on a gold flecked or silver flecked mason jar. Add the candle (provided) and you have a shimmering decoration. Craft fee: $5.00. \n11:00 a.m.\nNATURE WALK\nJoin the park naturalists out in the field to observe birds\, butterflies and more in addition to taking a look at the current blooming wildflowers. Bird life around the nature center can include Alder Flycatchers\, Chestnut-sided Warbler\, Purple Finch\, and Swamp Sparrow in the variety of habitats right around Pendleton Lake. Boots recommended. About 1 hour. About 1 mile. YPP \n1:30 p.m.\nBUTTERFLIES AND CRAFT WINGS\nJoin the park naturalist to listen about our state butterfly and perhaps attempt to look outside for\nbutterflies found in the area. DESCRIPTION:Blackwater Falls State Park invite you to join interpretive guide and naturalist Paulita Cousin on an adventure to observe birds\, butterflies and perhaps salamanders and other fauna in addition to taking a look at the current blooming wildflowers. \nBird life around the nature center can include Alder Flycatchers\, Chestnut-sided Warbler\, Purple Finch\, and Swamp Sparrow in the variety of habitats right around Pendleton Lake. \nIn addition to butterflies\, the edge of the Pendleton Lake and waterways flowing into it offer an opportunity to observe various dragonflies and damselflies. \nBring the whole family as we net some of the butterflies and dragonflies. Please wear appropriate hiking attire for the weather. DESCRIPTION:Live birds of prey at Watoga State Park are presented by the Three Rivers Avian Center (TRAC) on Friday\, July 15\, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. The educational birds are a great opportunity to learn what birds say “who cooks for me\, who cooks for you all?” as well as meeting other raptors. \nThe afternoon program is all about raptors native to West Virginia: hawks\, eagles\, falcons\, and owls. The term Foodways is defined as an in-depth look at people (the Blennerhassett Family) in a location (Blennerhassett Island) and examines the procurement\, the preparation\, and the presentation of food on their table. This interpretative program begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday\, July 16\, 2022 on Blennerhassett Island. DESCRIPTION:A state since 1963\, West Virginia was actually millions of years in the making. The mineral wealth and natural beauty of West Virginia owe much to the geologic processes that began eons ago. Without geological processes\, there would be no rocks\, rivers\, coal\, oil or gas\, minerals\, or scenic beauty. “Indeed\, there would be no mountains in the Mountain State\,” says survey geologist Jim Britton. \nIf you don’t know limestone from sandstone or granite from gravel there are two activities to attend. The evening program on Thursday\, July 21 at 7:00 p.m. is a program that Jim offers\, explains and explores the mysteries of rock. (YPP) \n2 pm\nBIRD MIGRATION CHALLENGE (YPP)\nExperience the hazards birds must face as we play an interactive game in Windy Gap Schoolyard.\nEach “bird” follows a path to reach the next rest stop. We’ll be playing wildlife bingo – Coopers Rock-style. Lots of fun. \nJuly 23\, 2022 – Saturday\n8:30 PM\nMOTH TIME\nMeet at McCollum Campground to see what moths we can see at Coopers Rock. Make sure to bring your camera or smartphone to snap a picture. Sometimes a photograph helps us compare the moth we got to see to a resource book to identify. There are over 800 species of moths in West Virginia. How many will we attract on July 23? \nJuly 24\, 2022\n2:30 PM\nBE LIKE A BEAR\nMeet at the trading post near the overlook to learn more about bears. SUMMARY:Wings of Wonder\, Birds of Prey: Camp Creek
DESCRIPTION:Live birds of prey at Camp Creek State Park are presented by the Three Rivers Avian Center (TRAC) on Friday\, July 22\, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. The educational birds are a great opportunity to learn what birds say “who cooks for me\, who cooks for you all?” as well as meeting other raptors. \nThe evening program is all about raptors native to West Virginia: hawks\, eagles\, falcons\, and owls. You’ll learn about the habitat\, diet and behavior of each bird presented\, the most common causes of injury to each species and the laws protecting these special birds. There is no fee to attend.
