SUMMARY:History Alive! Gabriel Arthur: Cacapon Resort State Park
DESCRIPTION:This free first person portrayal of Gabriel Arthur is a History Alive! Program of the West Virginia Humanities Council. Doug Wood will portray this character in the Morgan Conference room at Cacapon Resort State Park. \n\n\n\nThis one hour program will include a first person monologue where the character introduces the historical\, social\, and political issues that influenced their life. Then the character will initiate a discussion with the audience allowing for questions. He was sent by his master\, Abraham Wood\, with a partner and Appamattuck guides from Fort Henry (present Petersburg\, Virginia) to explore western lands and trade with the Indians west of the Blue Ridge. Though his traveling partner was killed\, Arthur traveled widely with the Tomahitans\, participating in their battles against Spaniards and enemy Indians in the Ohio Valley and elsewhere\, during the Beaver Wars. He entered the Kanawha River Valley\, where he was welcomed by Tomahitan allies\, the Monetons\, into their large village. After two near brushes with death\, Arthur returned to Fort Henry with hope of extending his master’s fur trade westward. Portrayed by Doug Wood of Hurricane.

SUMMARY:Homegrown Music Series - Pipestem Resort State Park
DESCRIPTION:📍Black Bear Patio Stage \n\n\n\nHailing from the rugged hills of West Virginia\, singer-songwriter Shawn Benfield has cultivated a unique and compelling musical voice that defies easy categorization. His artistry is a rich tapestry woven from a wide array of musical influences\, drawing deeply from the wells of classic country\, the introspection of Texas songwriter greats\, and the poignant\, often melancholic indie sounds of artists like Elliott Smith. The resulting sound is distinctly his own: a voice that feels both fresh and instantly familiar.
