DESCRIPTION:West Virginia State Parks\, in cooperation with the West Virginia Department of Agriculture\, is pleased to announce the 2025 Farm to Table Dinner Series! \n\n\n\nThe individual talents of our state park chefs come alive as they create an unforgettable culinary experience by crafting a sumptuous dinner with locally sourced products. Each dinner in the series will feature its own unique theme\, setting\, entertainment and menu. These annual events at West Virginia’s state park restaurants create a unique summer-time experience you don’t want to miss! \n\n\n\nOn Sept. 12th from 5 p.m. to close\, the Bluestone Dining Room at Pipestem Resort State Park is featuring its annual farm to table buffet. Overlooking the breathtaking Bluestone Gorge\, this is a dinner you don’t want to miss. Reservations are recommended\, but not required\, so wear your stretchy pants and get ready to indulge in a locally sourced bonanza of flavor. The price is $30 per person for adults. \n\n\n\nThis year’s buffet includes: rabbit pot pie\, venison meatloaf\, honey glazed BBQ ribs\, WV Trout with sautéed almonds and grapes\, mashed red potatoes with sour cream and dill\, skillet glazed rainbow carrots with local WV honey and rosemary\, fried green tomatoes\, Italian green beans with bacon\, broccoli and cheese casserole\, balsamic brussel sprouts\, sweet and fluffy cornbread\, southern coleslaw\, loaded potato salad\, broccoli salad\, pickled deviled eggs with dill sprigs and jalapeño and shoofly pie. \n\n\n\nAfter dinner\, retreat to the Bluestone lounge for a wide selection of domestic and local beers and wines. SUMMARY:Monarch Tagging Demo: Cacapon Resort State Park Nature Center
DESCRIPTION:September is peak Monarch butterfly migration month\, when monarchs migrate south to Mexico over a 2\,500 mile journey. Be part of a citizen science project through https://monarchwatch.org/ that helps tagg monarchs through their migration route in West Virginia. Start at the nature center for a general talk on monarch life cycle\, monarch migration\, and conservation efforts the park staff is doing to protect the species. \n\n\n\nCatching wild monarch butterflies with nets will be attempted at several locations including: the nature center Monarch Way Station\, a two-acre pollinator field\, and a location near the main park entrance. If caught\, the butterfly will be tagged with a small adhesive sticker in efforts to track their migration to Mexico. Most importantly\, you will learn how to contribute to Monarch conservation! \n\n\n\nSeptember 12\,13\,19\, 20\,& 26th at 1-3 p.m. \n\n\n\nThis is a free\, family-friendly event with no preregistration required. This exclusive event is small\, intimate\, and cozy; tickets always sell out quickly. \n\n\n\nRestaurant operator Cristi Vason has curated a locally sourced menu that complements the beauty and simplicity of Holly River. Bring your furry friend and learn about leave no trace principles and other park rules. After hearing about B.A.R.K. your pet can earn a certificate for being part of B.A.R.K. in the Park. Paws at the Falls hike along the boardwalk from the Almost Heaven Swing to the bottom deck viewing of Blackwater Falls begins at 10 a.m. There is no fee to enter but donations in the form of monetary\, paper towels\, dawn dish liquid\, canned dog food\, canned cat food\, bleach\, large trash bags and new enrichment toys are welcomed for the Tucker County Animal Shelter. Prizes will be given after the hike to Blackwater Falls for best dressed owner/dog look alike and other tail wagging surprises.

He’s the host of the History Channel’s Man Vs History series\, the occasional host of NPR’s internationally syndicated Mountain Stage\, and a contributing columnist to the West Virginia Gazette-Mail. Bil’s humorous\, family friendly tall-tales and stories have earned the appreciation of listeners of all ages and from all walks of life. Though a five time champion of the WV Liars’s Contest\, Lepp’s stories often contain morsels of truth which present universal themes in clever and witty ways. Ingles escaped captivity in the 1700s and traveled on foot through the wilderness of present day West Virginia and Virginia to return home to her family. Wood will explore her capture and escape\, the native populations who lived in the area\, and the wars that affected them all. He will also take a look at at the prehistory of the Bluestone and New Rivers and how they shaped the future.
