DESCRIPTION:Old Growth Nature Trek is a Spring Fling activity!  \nTrek to an old-growth hemlock-oak forest along Pierson-Hollow at Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park on Sunday\, April 23\, 2023.  You’ll encounter other habitats in the park to discover warblers\, other wildlife\, and plants on this moderate hike. Binoculars are recommended. \nWe’ll meet at the Patterson House Museum at 10:00 a.m.  And expect to return by 11:30 a.m. The hike/walk is about two miles of easy paced walking and conversation. \nOld Growth Nature Trek is one of many programs/activities making up the Spring Nature Fling coordinated by the National Park Service.   \nFind more activities planned at the link below.

DESCRIPTION:An “out of this world” Earth Day activity at Chief Logan State Park lodge is an eyes to the sky experience. The Lyrids Meteor Shower is occurring with showers around 20mph and observation of Mars\, Mercury\, Venus and the Moon. Moon pies are also available. \nAbout the Lyrids Meteor ShowAccording to NASA\, The Lyrids meteor shower\, which peaks during late April\, is one of the oldest known meteor showers. The Lyrids have been observed for 2\,700 years. Peak activity is about 18 meteors per hour at a velocity of 29 miles per second. The Lyrids are known for their fast and bright meteors. SUMMARY:Earth Day! Nature Adventure Day Camp: Blackwater Falls
DESCRIPTION:Earth Day! April 22\, 2023 at Blackwater Falls State Park will be a very special day for twelve youth taking advantage of a day-camp of nature-based activities. Open to ages 9 – 12\, the day begins at 9:00 a.m. with a meet and greet at the nature center and then the adventure begins. \nThe day includes activities about birds\, water cycle and weather\, wildlife identification\, becoming a responsible outdoors girl or guy. Activities include meeting and learning nature center animals\, exploring the outdoors near the nature center\, and other activities. The camp is limited to 12 youth. A small group allows a lot of extra time spent exploring and discovering neat things in nature with the park naturalist. This Earth Day event may be of interest to homeschooled youth ages 9\, 10\, 11\, or 12 years old. The science based information\, resources used and hands-on learning is exceptional. \nPreregistration is required in advance and there is a $45 enrollment fee. The fee covers materials for crafting\, lunch\, a day pack\, and individual concentration on nature topics. SUMMARY:Nature Ranger Day Camp: Twin Falls
DESCRIPTION:Twelve youth ages 9 – 12 will become Nature Rangers by attending Nature Ranger Day Camp April 10-12\, 2023 at Twin Falls State Park. It can only be described as a blend of wildlife identification\, survival skills and nature crafting and appreciation. \nPreregistration is required and there is a program fee of $99 to cover lunches\, supplies provided\, and materials used for the three days of outdoor activities and discovery. Camp hours are 10:00AM – 5:00PM with extra two activities\, one in early morning Wednesday and one mid-evening on Monday. \nDay one includes a meet and greet\, tracking and track identification\, bats and moths their importance and understanding of echolocation\, and a survival skill set\, with the option of a black light hike in the evening. \nDay two is a primitive bush craft day that includes sling shots and sportsmanship\, primitive shelter building\, and primitive fire building using different methods of fire starting. \nDay three has a very early morning option called ‘speak the language’ and about understanding the wild turkey habits\, sounds and their habitats. A turkey call craft\, chair construction using only cord and sticks\, and completion certificate and pin concludes the day camp. \nLunch is provided each day. Activities are primarily outside.
