Craft fee: $2.00. \n1:00 p.m. Spooky Leaf HikeMeet Naturalist Kenny at the Sled Run for this hike along a portion of two parktrails: Shay Trace and Cherry Lane. About 90 minutes. 1.5 miles. YPP \n2:00 p.m. Light Pollution and Solution-You!Join the park naturalist for this program about light pollution and the impacts it has on wildlife and us. Also\, discover ways you can help. About 1 hour. YPP \n5:00 p.m. Ramblin’ Ranger-Let’s Talk TurkeyFind the park naturalist in Blackwater Lodge Lobby with her display about the wild turkey. Children can craft a turkey call. The naturalist will be available in the lobby for about 2 hours. Let’s see who can gobble. YPP \nSATURDAY\, October 14\, 2023Nature Center Open: 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. \n10:00 a.m. Colors of Fall HikeJoin the park naturalist to explore the different colors of fall. YPP \n11:00 a.m. Toddler TimeToddlers can get creative with fingerpaint while watching a short video about two snowdrifts as they introduce the viewer to forest friends and reminisce about the time a mysterious stranger came to visit. About 30 minutes. YPP \n12:00 p.m. Spooky Leaf CraftJoin the staff to use crayons\, wax paper\, and an iron to create a window decoration. SUMMARY:Mid-October Outdoors: Pipestem
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy mid-October activities at Pipestem Resort October 17 – 22\, 2023. If you can’t attend activity\, be sure to stop by the Nature Center from 11:00am – 5:00pm daily to see our exhibits\, to ask questions about Pipestem and the area\, or to see birds that may be in the viewing area when you visit. \nTUESDAY\, October 17\, 2023 \n10:00 am- Barney Law Orchard WalkJoin us at the Nature Center for a nearby walk to the homesite and orchard of former park resident\, Barney Law. \n2:00 pm- Turtle Game *YPPMeet in the front yard of the Nature Center to learn about turtles while we play an outdoor game. (self paced) \nWEDNESDAY\, October 18\, 2023 \n5:00 pm- Bird Bingo *YPPCome by the Activity Shelter at the Nature Center for a few rounds of Bird Bingo andlearn some interesting bird facts. (45 minutes) \nTHURSDAY\, October 19\, 2023 \n10:30 am- It’s For the Birds *YPPMeet staff inside the Nature Center for a conversation on our bird feeding space\, birding apps commonly used\, and common bird feeder birds. Enjoy the center or stick close to our bird watching area for some relaxing birding. Birds viewed during this activity will be submitted to ebird.org as a citizen science opportunity. (30min) \n5:00 pm- An Extraordinary Ordinary MothMeet in the Activity Shelter behind the Nature Center to hear a storybook story about a moth. Then color a picture of a moth any color you want. A great activity for kids or adults who love moths. YPP \nFRIDAY\, October 20\, 2023 \n5:00 pm- Wildlife Game *YPPMeet at the Nature Center for a quiz game about North American wildlife. (30 min) \n6:30 pm- Campfire Time! *YPPMeet at the fire ring behind the Campground store to learn how to make char cloth\, a fire-starting assistance\, and make fire using this primitive fire starter. We will also roast some marshmallows. Bring a camping chair if you have one. (1 hour) \nLive Music! on the Patio at the Black Bear LoungeFeaturing Corey Lee McQuade(in case of inclement weather the show will be moved inside.) \nSATURDAY\, October 21\, 2023 \n1:00 pm- Pipestem Heritage *YPPMeet at the Nature Center for an in depth tour of our heritage structures and to see pictures from the past taken in our own park. If you treasure family stories\, this is a lovely program to attend. \n3:00 pm- Nature Hunt *YPPMeet at the Nature Center. We will hand out a list of objects to look for in Nature. Once youfind them\, you receive a prize! (30 minutes) \n6:00 pm- Beginner Archery *YPPMeet at the Campground store to practice your archery skills. (1 hour) \nSUNDAY\, October 22\, 2023 \n8:30 am- Church ServiceMeet us at the Amphitheater for Sunday service. \n10:00 am- Tower WalkMeet in the parking lot of the Bolar Observation Tower located near the main entrance of the park for a short\, but steep hike to one of the best views in the park. \nYoung People for ParksYPP is an environmental education program for children ages 6-16. To complete the program\, participants attend three specified activities during their stay. These programs are indicated by *YPP.
