We will also roast some marshmallows. Bring a camping chair if you have one. (1 hour) \nSATURDAY\, October 14\, 20231:00 pm- Pipestem Heritage *YPPMeet at the Nature Center for an in depth tour of our heritage structures and to see pictures from the past taken in our own park. \n3:00 pm- Nature Hunt *YPPMeet at the Nature Center. YPP \n2:00 p.m. Light Pollution and Solution-You!Join the park naturalist for this program about light pollution and the impacts it has on wildlife and us. Also\, discover ways you can help. DESCRIPTION:Heron Festival at Beech Fork State Park is a family day of events with music\, free hayrides\, pontoon boat rides\, pumpkin decorating contests\, cruise in car display\, camper display\, as well as food\, craft\, and flea market-style vendors. Open to the public. No charge to attend festivities. \nCampsites are reservable at a fee and bookable online. \nBe a vendor! Heron Fest welcomes vendors interested in reserving a space. Vendors should call Beech Fork State Park at 304-528-5794 or email beechforksp@wv.gov. \nHeron Festival includes these activities and interests: \nAntique Tractor Show WV Tractor Association \nOld and antique tractors will be displayed on the “Road to Nowhere”. \nArts & Crafts Vendors \nStaged around the Park Headquarters Building \nBeech Fork Foundation Hot Dog Sale \nCampsite Decorating Contest \nRegister at the office. SUMMARY:3.65-mile Hike: North Bend
DESCRIPTION:Take a hike on a section of the North Bend Rail Trail and enjoy the fall foliage of Ritchie County in West Virginia in autumn. This is a new hike start and shuttle return pattern this year with the hike beginning at North Bend State Park and concluding in Cairo and shuttle service at that trail section. Hikers desiring shuttle service back to the park must pre register. \nMeet park naturalist Sarah Clark at North Bend State Park’s Shelter 3 parking lot. There is parking available. Hikers need to arrive at the shelter by 9:00 a.m. on Saturday\, October 14\, 2023. Parking is available. \nWe’ll walk the access trail to the Rail Trail near Tunnel 13 (¾ mile) and then hike to the trailhead in Cairo\, W.Va. (2.9 miles). \nAt Cairo hikers will shuttle back to Shelter 3. Hikers that want a longer hike may backtrack the trail to Shelter #3. We need pre registration for shuttle service. It is recommended that you bring plenty of water\, wear sturdy shoes/boots\, bring snacks\, and dress for the weather. If you show\, we go. This event is free and open to the public. \nHikers must register for shuttle space by October 10\, 2023 by calling the park at 304.643.2931 or emailing Sarah.E.Clark@wv.gov. \nFor more information call the North Bend State Park front desk at (304) 643-2931\, email the park naturalist at Sarah.E.Clark@wv.gov or check the North Bend Foundation Facebook page for details as activities are planned.
