DESCRIPTION:Enjoy friends and family activities at Pipestem Resort State Park October 9 – 15\, 2023. Check out the nature center. It’s open daily from 11:00am until 5:00pm. Tee it up on the golf course. Discover comfortable seating and a great meal in the Bluestone Dining Room. \nMONDAY\, October 9\, 20231:00 pm- Taxidermy Talk *YPPCome by the Nature Center to learn about some of West Virginia’s native wildlife\, see our taxidermy collection\, and touch authentic animal pelts.(30min) \n5:00 pm- What Should I Bring? *YPPMeet in the Activity Shelter behind the Nature Center for a talk about what you should take with you when you explore the great outdoors.(30 minutes) \nTUESDAY\, October 10\, 202310:00 am- Barney Law Orchard WalkJoin us at the Nature Center for a nearby walk to the homesite and orchard of former park resident\, Barney Law. \n2:00 pm- Turtle Game *YPPMeet in the front yard of the Nature Center to learn about turtles while we play an outdoor game. (self paced) \nWEDNESDAY\, October 11\, 20235:00 pm- Bird Bingo *YPPCome by the Activity Shelter at the Nature Center for a few rounds of Bird Bingo andlearn some interesting bird facts.(45 minutes) \nTHURSDAY\, October 12\, 202310:30 am- It’s For the Birds *YPPMeet staff inside the Nature Center for a conversation on our bird feeding space\, birding apps commonly used\, and common bird feeder birds. Enjoy the center or stick close to our bird watching area for some relaxing birding. Birds viewed during this activity will be submitted to ebird.org as a citizen science opportunity. (30min) \n5:00 pm- An Extraordinary Ordinary MothMeet in the Activity Shelter behind the Nature Center to hear a storybook story about a moth. Then color a picture of a moth any color you want. A great activity for kids or adults who love moths. YPP \nFRIDAY\, October 13\, 20235:00 pm- Wildlife Game *YPPMeet at the Nature Center for a quiz game about North American wildlife. (30 min) \n7:00 pm- Campfire Time! *YPPMeet at the fire ring behind the Campground store to learn how to make char cloth\, a fire-starting assistance\, and make fire using this primitive fire starter. We will also roast some marshmallows. Bring a camping chair if you have one. (1 hour) \nSATURDAY\, October 14\, 20231:00 pm- Pipestem Heritage *YPPMeet at the Nature Center for an in depth tour of our heritage structures and to see pictures from the past taken in our own park. \n3:00 pm- Nature Hunt *YPPMeet at the Nature Center. We will hand out a list of objects to look for in Nature. Once you find them\, you receive a prize! (30 minutes) \n6:00 pm- Beginner Archery *YPPMeet at the Campground store to practice your archery skills. (1 hour) \nLive Music! on the Patio at the Black Bear LoungeFeaturing Shawn Benfield (in case of inclement weather the show will be moved inside.) \nSUNDAY\, October 15\, 202310:00 am- Tower WalkMeet in the parking lot of the Bolar Observation Tower located near the main entrance of the park for a short\, but steep hike to one of the best views in the park. \nYoung People for ParksYPP is an environmental education program for children ages 6-16. DESCRIPTION:Blackwater Falls offers nature based activities year round and mid-October is no exception.Take advantage of these activities October 13-16\, 2023. \nFRIDAY\, October 13\, 2023Nature Center Open: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. \n11:00 a.m. Leaf PoundingJoin the seasonal naturalist\, Kenny\, for this unique craft. Craft fee: $2.00. \n1:00 p.m. Spooky Leaf HikeMeet Naturalist Kenny at the Sled Run for this hike along a portion of two parktrails: Shay Trace and Cherry Lane. About 90 minutes. 1.5 miles. YPP \n2:00 p.m. Light Pollution and Solution-You!Join the park naturalist for this program about light pollution and the impacts it has on wildlife and us. Also\, discover ways you can help. About 1 hour. YPP \n5:00 p.m. Ramblin’ Ranger-Let’s Talk TurkeyFind the park naturalist in Blackwater Lodge Lobby with her display about the wild turkey. Children can craft a turkey call. The naturalist will be available in the lobby for about 2 hours. Let’s see who can gobble. YPP \nSATURDAY\, October 14\, 2023Nature Center Open: 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. \n10:00 a.m. Colors of Fall HikeJoin the park naturalist to explore the different colors of fall. Why do the trees change in the fall? How can you identify some of the trees? About 70 minutes. 1.5 miles. YPP \n11:00 a.m. Toddler TimeToddlers can get creative with fingerpaint while watching a short video about two snowdrifts as they introduce the viewer to forest friends and reminisce about the time a mysterious stranger came to visit. About 30 minutes. YPP \n12:00 p.m. Spooky Leaf CraftJoin the staff to use crayons\, wax paper\, and an iron to create a window decoration. Craft fee: $1.00 \n1:00 p.m. Decoupage Mason Jar CandleMake your own fall decorative jar or Blackwater Falls Souvenir. SUMMARY:Pumpkin Carving & Tye-Dye: Twin Falls
DESCRIPTION:It’s Fun Friday\, October 13\, 2023 at Twin Falls State Park with a duo activity: Pumpkin Carving and Tye-Dye. It’s orange\, black and white time from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the lower end of Twin Falls Lodge parking lot. Here’s the game plan: \nThe activity is $20 and it gets you a pumpkin that you can carve at Twin Falls or take home and carve. PLUS tye dye a t-shirt at the activity. You’ll create your amazing halloween t-shirt with black and orange dye and it is logoed to show your support of Twin Falls activities. \nTammy and Ace are your Fun Friday instructors. If you want to carve your pumpkin please bring your carving tools.
