Hosted and narrated by Chris Morgan\, ecologist. Enjoy part of the film or entire film between 11 am and 2 pm. YPP \n11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m.Stop and Craft- Suncatcher CraftJoin the recreation assistant to use suncatcher paint on pre-designed suncatcher for your window. Colonel Ruby Bradley.Women in history are alive at Blackwater Falls State Park! Becky Park of Charleston West Virginia portrays Colonel Ruby Bradley. This inspirational portrayal of a gal originally from Spencer\, West Virginia spans her military career.. When Bradley retired in 1963 from the US Army she was the most decorated woman in American military history. \nBradley was captured by the Japanese in the Philippines in 1941 and was a POW until 1945. She was a POW for three years and liberated along with other prisoners in February 1943. She continued to work as a nurse in the prison camp. She was named Chief Nurse of the Eighth Army in 1951 and supervised over 500 nurses in Korea. Bradley attained the rank of Colonel in 1958. Born in 1907\, Bradley lived a full life until her passing in 2002. \nBecky Park presents the story and follows up in person to answer questions and then as herself talking about the program\, the importance of sharing and preserving history. Join us at the lodge for this inspiring program. There is no charge to attend. All ages are welcome. \nWant to STARGAZE on your own?Blackwater Falls as a permit process for folks to Stargaze After Hours Get the permit in the Harold Walters Nature Center during normal business hours. \nThe designated stargazing locations at Blackwater Falls are at two locations:1 Harold Walters Nature Center Parking Lot2. Pendleton Point Overlook Parking Lot \nRoaming the park during quiet hours when the park is closed (10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.) is discouraged. But stargazing is possible with the permit at the two designated locations that are super areas with very dark skies. \nThe permit lets park security know you’ve registered. As a reminder sleeping/camping at locations is not permitted. Individuals must actively be stargazing and remain near their parked vehicle. \n  \nReserve lodging: \nBook Now

DESCRIPTION:Our mountain sides are beginning to change from greens to golds\, reds and oranges at Pipestem Resort State Park. Find these activities and enjoy being outside as autumn approaches September 4-10\, 2023. \nMONDAY\, September 4\, 2023 \n1:00 pm- Taxidermy Talk *YPPCome by the Nature Center to learn about some of West Virginia’s native wildlife\, seeour taxidermy collection\, and touch authentic animal pelts. (30min) \n5:00 pm- What Should I Bring? *YPPMeet in the Activity Shelter behind the Nature Center for a talk about what you should take with you when you explore the great outdoors. (30 minutes) \nTUESDAY\, September 5\, 2023 \n10:00 am- Barney Law Orchard WalkJoin us at the Nature Center for a nearby walk to the homesite and orchard of former park resident\, Barney Law. \n2:00 pm- Turtle Game *YPPMeet in the front yard of the Nature Center to learn about turtles while we play an outdoor game. (self paced) \nWEDNESDAY\, September 6\, 2023 \n5:00 pm- Bird Bingo *YPPCome by the Activity Shelter at the Nature Center for a few rounds of Bird Bingo and learn some interesting bird facts. (45 minutes) \nTHURSDAY\, September 7\, 2023 \n10:30 am- It’s For the Birds *YPPMeet staff inside the Nature Center for a conversation on our bird feeding space\, birdingapps commonly used\, and common bird feeder birds. Enjoy the center or stick close to our bird watching area for some relaxing birding. Birds viewed during this activity will be submitted to ebird.org as a citizen science opportunity. (30min) \n5:00 pm- An Extraordinary Ordinary MothMeet in the Activity Shelter behind the Nature Center to hear a storybook story about a moth. Then color a picture of a moth any color you want. A great activity for kids or adults who love moths. YPP \nFRIDAY\, September 8\, 2023 \n5:00 pm- Wildlife Game *YPPMeet at the Nature Center for a quiz game about North American wildlife. (30 min) \nLive Music!7:00 – 9:00pmFeaturing Corey Lee McQuade outside of the Black Bear Lounge @ Pipestem Resort State Park \nCorey Lee McQuade\, the other flatpicking dobro man\, carries on the dobro style of Tut Taylor flatpicking the resophonic guitar aka dobro. He is a singer/songwriter from Lewisburg\, WV and currently residing in Athens\, WV. His solo performances include fingerpicking and flatpicking guitar\, flatpicking dobro\, and clawhammer banjo. His original songs are inspired by old time traditional music\, local history\, and folk singers/songwriters. \n7:30 pm- Campfire Time! *YPPMeet at the fire ring behind the Campground store to learn how to make char cloth\, a fire-starting assistance\, and make fire using this primitive fire starter. We will also roast some marshmallows. Bring a camping chair if you have one. (1 hour) \nSATURDAY\, September 9\, 2023 \n1:00 pm- Pipestem Heritage *YPPMeet at the Nature Center for an in depth tour of our heritage structures and to see pictures from the past taken in our own park. \n3:00 pm- Nature Hunt *YPPMeet at the Nature Center. We will hand out a list of objects to look for in Nature. Onceyou find them\, you receive a prize! (30 minutes) \n6:00 pm- Beginner Archery *YPPMeet at the Campground store to practice your archery skills. (1 hour) \nYoung People for ParksYPP is an environmental education program for children ages 6-16. To complete the program\, participants attend three specified activities during their stay. These programs are indicated by *YPP. DESCRIPTION:Women in history are alive at Blackwater Falls State Park on Thursday\, September 7\, 2023. Becky Park of Charleston West Virginia portrays Colonel Ruby Bradley at this 7:30 program. Open to the public\, this inspirational portrayal of a gal from originally from Spencer West Virginia spans her military career. There is no charge to attend. \nThe program is a great history lesson for homeschooled children or individuals always interested in military history\, particularly when it involves service by a West Virginian. The program is made possible by the West Virginia Humanities Council and West Virginia State Parks. \nAbout Colonel Ruby BradleyWhen Bradley retired from the U.S. Army in 1963 she was the most decorated woman in American military history. Bradley was captured by the Japanese in the Philippines in 1941 and was a POW until 1945. She was a POW for three years and liberated along with other prisoners in February 1943.
