This is a lovely morning walk at Pipestem. (1 hour) \n2:00 – 3:00 pm: Wings of Wonder-Birds of PreyThree Rivers Avian Center (TRAC) is live at Pipestem Resort. The educational birds are a great opportunity to learn what birds say “who cooks for me\, who cooks for you all?” as well as meeting other raptors. What a nice program to attend after having Sunday lunch at the restaurant or an afternoon outing to the park. \nThis nature program is all about raptors native to West Virginia: hawks\, eagles\, falcons\, and owls. You’ll learn about the habitat\, diet and behavior of each bird presented\, the most common causes of injury to each species and the laws protecting these special birds. \nThere is no fee to attend. Open to the public\, the program lasts about an hour and is staged indoors at the conference center in McKeever Lodge at Pipestem State Park. Questions are welcomed. This is a family friendly event. An excellent presentation for all ages. \nYoung People for ParksYPP is an environmental education program for children ages 6-16. Let’s find out more about the Cicada and do a craft\, too! Meet in the Activity Room\, at the administrative building. (length 1 hour) \n2:00pm: Butterflies:Come learn about the variety of Butterflies and learn about the life cycle of Butterflies. We will take a walk along the Road to No Where to try and catch some butterflies\, with nets. We will also make a Butterfly to take home! Meet in the Activity Room\, at the administrative building. (length up to 1.5 hour) \nSo Much Fun!SATURDAY\, September 2\, 202312:00noon: Anything That Floats!!Join us at 12:00 p.m. at the boat launch. Bring literally anything that floats! You can boat on: air mattress\, barrels\, inflatables\, duct tape and cardboard boats\, kayaks\, canoes\, standup paddle boards\, etc. We’ll launch from the boat dock for some water fun. Wear ridiculous outfits\, and enjoy the day on the water. Standard life jacket laws still apply. Wear your helmets because WV Bicycle Helmet Regulations will be in effect. About 70 minutes. 2 miles. YPP \n11:00 a.m. Twisted tie DyeJoin the staff to create your own Blackwater Falls souvenir tie dye craft. Adult Size shirts $10.00\, Youth size shirts $8.00. sizes limited. \n11:30 a.m. Amphibians & “Stained Glass” CraftBeverly welcomes you to this educational film and craft. About 40 minutes. Any age welcomed. Free. YPP \n12:00 Park CampfireJoin the seasonal naturalist for a traditional campfire program with singing\, storytelling\, flint and steel fun\, s’mores and more. YPP \nSUNDAY\, September 3\, 2023The Nature Center is open from 10:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. \n10:30 a.m. Prehistoric Amber/Copal CraftJoin the recreation assistant for this craft activity. The sample fossilized over millions of years! Leaves\, flowers and insects have been found trapped inside and scientists have learned a great deal about prehistoric times by analyzing the DNA of these little extinct creatures perfectly preserved by the hardened resin that surrounds them. (Just like in the movie Jurassic Park!). The amber/copal comes in its natural state (dull and “crusted”) and we provide the simple tools to remove the crusty shell and polish the piece into a smooth\, lightweight golden gem. If you polish a piece really well and look closely\, some even contain an insect! . The amber can be polished in anywhere from 30-45 minutes or more depending upon the piece and the shininess desired! Recommended for ages 6 and up. Limited to first come basis. Craft fee: $3.00 YPP \n12:30 p.m. Owls of West VirginiaKenny invites you to his program on owls found in The Mountain State of West Virginia. Learnsome owl calls and more in this family friendly activity. Includes an owl pellet activity. YPP \n2:00 p.m. Rainbow ArtJoin the recreation assistant to use shaving cream and watercolor to create a work of art for your wall or create a card. Do you know how a rainbow forms? What colors mix to make other colors? Craft fee: $1.00. Craft fee: $5.00 YPP \nWant to STARGAZE on your own?Blackwater Falls as a permit process for folks to Stargaze After Hours Get the permit in the Harold Walters Nature Center during normal business hours. \nThe designated stargazing locations at Blackwater Falls are at two locations:1 Harold Walters Nature Center Parking Lot2. Pendleton Point Overlook Parking Lot \nRoaming the park during quiet hours when the park is closed (10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.) is discouraged. But stargazing is possible with the permit at the two designated locations that are super areas with very dark skies. \nThe permit lets park security know you’ve registered. DESCRIPTION:The 16th annual Art-in-the-Park series is a juried art fair that provides public access to fine artisans located in the Berkeley Springs region of West Virginia. Nationally known artists exhibit at this event\, and the best part is artisans are local residents. \n\n\n\nShows are rain or shine from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and located across the street from the Farmers Market. Art-in-the-Park is free to attend and open to the public. SUMMARY:Wings of Wonder-Birds of Prey: Pipestem
DESCRIPTION:Three Rivers Avian Center (TRAC) is live at Pipestem Resort on Sunday\, September 3\, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. The educational birds are a great opportunity to learn what birds say “who cooks for me\, who cooks for you all?” as well as meeting other raptors. What a nice program to attend after having Sunday lunch at the restaurant or an afternoon outing to the park. \nThis nature program is all about raptors native to West Virginia: hawks\, eagles\, falcons\, and owls. You’ll learn about the habitat\, diet and behavior of each bird presented\, the most common causes of injury to each species and the laws protecting these special birds. \nThere is no fee to attend. Open to the public\, the program lasts about an hour and is staged at the conference center in McKeever Lodge at Pipestem State Park. Questions are welcomed. This is a family friendly event.
