SUMMARY:Copal\, Wildlife Walk\, Truth or Lie Stroll: Blackwater Falls
DESCRIPTION:The variety of scheduled activities for August 21 – 24\, 2023 at Blackwater Falls State Park is open to the public and for all ages. Activities are hosted at the nature center unless indicated otherwise. The Nature Center is open Sunday – Friday from 10:30AM – 5:00PM and Saturday from 10:00AM-7:00PM. The boathouse is open 10:30AM – 5:00PM Wednesday – Sunday until Labor Day and closed on Monday and Tuesday\, except on a holiday. \nMONDAY\, August 21\, 2023 \n10:45 a.m. CRAFT TIME!Join the staff for their choice of universe themed craft. Craft fee varies up to $2.00. YPP \n11:30 a.m. PARACORD CRITTER FUN & MOVIEJoin the staff to create a critter of their choice to make using paracord string thenenjoy a short nature film. NR. FREE Craft. YPP \n1:00 p.m. KIDS NATURE FILM & FINGER PAINTING FUNJoin the recreation assistant for a short film about a worried scarecrow as winter approaches while using your fingers to paint a picture. NO FEE. YPP \n2:00 p.m. GINGERBREAD MAN CRAFTJoin the staff to decorate a cardboard gingerbread man for $1.00. \nTUESDAY\, August 22\, 2023 \n11:00 a.m. PREHISTORIC AMBER/COPAL CRAFTJoin the recreation assistant for this craft activity. The sample fossilized over millions of years! Leaves\, flowers and insects have been found trapped inside and scientists have learned a great deal about prehistoric times by analyzing the DNA of these little extinct creatures perfectly preserved by the hardened resin that surrounds them. (Just like in the movie JurassicPark!). The amber/copal comes in its natural state (dull and “crusted”) and we provide the simple tools to remove the crusty shell and polish the piece into a smooth\, lightweight golden gem. If you polish a piece really well and look closely\, some even contain an insect! .The amber can be polished in anywhere from 30-45 minutes or more depending upon the piece and the shininess desired! Recommend- ed for ages 6 and up. Limited to first come basis. Craft fee: $3.00 \n1:00 p.m.. WILDLIFE OBSERVATION WALK & CRAFTJoin the attendant as we explore different habitats in search of wildlife and plants around the nature center. About 45 minutes. Afterwards create a habitat plate craft. FREE. YPP \n3:00 p.m. BINGOEnjoy this classic game for the entire family with the recreation attendant. Small novelty prize to winners. About 45 minutes. \nWEDNESDAY\, August 23\, 2023 \n10:00 a.m. AMPHIBIANS OF THE WOODSJoin the park naturalist at Sled Run fire circle to walk into the woods in search of amphibians that call it home. Learn how to protect these sensitive critters and more. Sturdy shoes required. Snakes will be looked at but not handled. About 1 hour. YPP \n1:00 p.m. TODDLER TIMEJoin the naturalist for a reading of a book. About 15 minutes. YPP \n2:00 p.m. The BEE MOVIE & CANDLE MAKINGJoin the naturalist to create a candle then watch a movie while it solidifies. Craft fee: $4.00. About 1.5 hours. SUMMARY:Farm-to-Table Outdoor Dinner: North Bend
DESCRIPTION:A delicious Farm-to-Table dinner at North Bend State Park is scheduled for Thursday\, August 24\, 2023. This evening event is staged at Shelter #4 located near North Bend Lodge. A half moon will illuminate the evening casting 50% moonshine over the grounds. A popular dining experience\, you’ll want to make reservations in advance for this year’s event. \nThe growing season’s yield of locally sourced garden produce and products\, this event is held outdoors and has limited reservations to assure attention to detail\, quality and presentation. \nOur menu for 2023 starts with loaded potato soup and a refreshing kale salad.  The main course will be farm raised chicken with peach-cucumber salsa\, fall off the bone BBQ pork ribs\, locally grown Mexican street corn\, cheesy smashed potatoes and homemade rolls with cinnamon butter. Dessert is the finale with a summer fruit salad with homemade whipped cream\, and cinnamon and brown sugar apple crisp. Yum! \nTickets are $50/Adult and $35/Youth 12 and younger.  Reservations are required in advance.  Tax and gratuity is included in the ticket price. DESCRIPTION:From Rick K and the Allnighters in concert to Bird Bingo\, there’s a lot happening at Pipestem Resort State Park August 24 – 27\, 2023 including a car show. \nTHURSDAY\, August 24\, 2023 \n10:30 am- It’s For the Birds *YPPMeet staff inside the Nature Center for a conversation on our bird feeding space\, birding apps commonly used\, and common bird feeder birds. Enjoy the center or stick close to our bird watching area for some relaxing birding. Birds viewed during this activity will be submitted to ebird.org as a citizen science opportunity. (30min) \n2:00 pm- Hummingbirds: Magic in the Air *YPPMeet at the Activity Shelter behind the Nature Center to learn some interesting facts about our favorite little feathered friends. (30 min) \n4:00 pm- An Extraordinary Ordinary MothMeet in the Activity Shelter behind the Nature Center to hear a storybook story about a moth. Then color a picture of a moth any color you want. We will hand out a list of objects to look for in Nature. Once you find them\, you receive a prize! (30 minutes) \n4:00 pm- Pipestem Heritage *YPPMeet at the Nature Center for an in depth tour of our heritage structures and to see pictures from the past taken in our own park. \nOldies Car & Motorcycle Show – CAR SHOWFor the 23rd year\, the Oldies Rock & Roll Weekend Car & Motorcycle Show and concert is happening at Pipestem Resort State Park on August 26\, 2023. The car show is produced and organized by Myron Anderson with A&R Productions. There is no charge to check out the various vehicles and to enjoy a day at Pipestem and the car/motorcycle show. Registration begins at 8:00 am and the show concludes at 4:00 pm. \n8:00 – 10:00 pm – CONCERTRick K & the Allnighters Show: Pipestem Amphitheater \nIt’s an evening of rock n’ roll oldies\, country and pop music. The evening includes showmanship and hilarious high jinx in addition to favorite popular music spanning 50 years of style. It is “great family entertainment”. This band performs at the outdoor amphitheater for an evening concert. They are entertainers and do a remarkable two hour show.Ticket price is $10 dollars at the gate and $8 in advance. The show is open to the public. Attendees are not required to stay overnight at the park. There is ample parking for this event.
