Meet at the picnic shelter to make match rockets and learn the basics on how rockets work. *ypp \n2-3pm Turtle talkWVs only land turtle is the box turtle. Join the naturalist at the pines behind the events building to learn about turtles and other reptiles that make their home at Bluestone State Park. *ypp \n6-8pm Tye dyeOne of a kind! We’ll be at the swimming pool to create a one of a kind souvenir. Shirts are $10 for a park shirt\, $5 if you bring your own. \n8:30-10pm Moth and Lightning bug surveyShine little glow worm\, also known as fireflies and lightning bugs. Join Naturalist Jonathan behind the events building to learn about the nocturnal insects that call Bluestone State park home. These are creatures that are only out at night. Maybe a Luna moth or different species of fireflies with greet us. All ages welcome. Family friendly. *ypp \nSUNDAY\, July 30\, 20239am Bird watchingBirding basics. Meet at the shelter behind the activities building for a relaxing morning of bird watching. If you know birds really well\, come on! If you are just getting interested in birds\, come on! *ypp \n10am Nature HikeLearn about the local flora and fauna with a hike along the cabin and rhododendron trail. We will meet in front of the events building for this 1.5 mile hike. \n1-3pm giant bubblesWe will be making giant bubbles behind the events building. This activity is a hit with all ages. If the weather is cooperative\, some wind but not too much wind and the humidity is right\, we can make bubbles that are Goliath’s. Maybe even share a little science and the bubble recipe. \n6-8pm Tye dyeJoin me at the pool to create a one of a kind souvenir. shirts are $10 for a park shirt\, $5 if you bring your own. \nMONDAY\, July 31\, 20239am FishingA relaxing morning fishing and learning about different types of fishing equipment at the fishing pier meets at 9:00am below the Bluestone State Park office. Bring your own equipment or borrow one of ours All ages are welcome to join\, although ages 15 up require a license which can be found at wvfish.com *ypp \n1-3pm Giant bubbles/Chalk art/Water rocketsOutdoor activity trifecta! Making giant bubbles\, chalk art\, and shooting water rockets will be at the Meador Campground bathhouse. This is fun for all ages. Join us. \n3:30pm Penny stovesLearn how to make a penny stove using old soda cans at the picnic shelter. Those wishing to make a stove need to bring two empty soda cans. DESCRIPTION:Pipestem Resort sits on the east rim of the Bluestone River Gorge\, which carves through the plateau to the scenic Bluestone River 1\,200 feet below. Visit the Nature Center which is open Wednesday-Sunday 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. See our exhibits and heritage structures\, and sit a spell in our West Virginia made rocking chairs\, listen to the outside birds inside\, or attend activities planned July 31-August 3\, 2023. \nMONDAY\, July 31\, 2023 \n10:00 am-Wildlife Game *YPPMeet at the Nature Center for a quiz game about North American wildlife. \n11:00 am- Lake Dip *YPPMeet at the pedestrian bridge near McKeever Lodge for a walk to Long Branch Lake. Whoknows what critters we might catch! \n2:00 pm- Ultimate FrisbeeMeet at the Campground Store to learn how to play Ultimate Frisbee. Ultimate Frisbee is a teamsport which mixes elements of football\, basketball\, and rugby\, substituting the ball with a flying discand the referee with the spirit of the game. (40 minutes) \n3:00 pm- Turtle Game *YPPMeet in the front yard of the Nature Center to learn about turtles while we play an outdoor game. \n5:00 pm- Firefly Friends *YPPEnjoy the magic of fireflies by creating this cute craft\, which will leave you with a firefly friend without taking the real thing out of nature. Join us as we show how\, with just a few standard craft items you can have a firefly friend year round. \nWEDNESDAY\, August 2\, 2023 \n10:00 am- Deer Talk Time *YPPJoin us at the activities shelter behind the Nature Center to learn about deer. We will talk about the different signs and behaviors of adult white-tailed deer and give participants a chance totouch a deer pelt. Additionally\, we will discuss what to do if you come across a fawn in the wild. \n1:00 pm- Plaster Tracks *YPPMeet in the Activity Shelter behind the Nature Center to make a plaster animal track. Drying times may vary due to weather conditions\, so please allow a minimum of 30 minutes for your track to dry and be ready to take home. \n4:00 pm- Shaving Cream PaintingMeet at the Activity Shelter behind the Nature Center to create a fun painted craft to take home. This craft is fun for kids and kids at heart. Make sure to wear your “play” clothes as the craft can get messy. (30 min) \n9:15 pm- Moth Night *YPPMeet at the Nature Center for some moth watching. There will be a black light and white sheet set up to attract the moths. Bring a flashlight and a chair if you like and don’t forget your camera to capture your moth moments. (1hour) \n4:00 pm- Pipestem Heritage *YPPMeet at the Nature Center for an in depth tour of our heritage structures and to see pictures from the past taken in our own park. \nSunday\, August 6\, 2023 \n10:00 am- Country Roads Walk *YPPMeet at Park Headquarters to walk along the road and into the woods to learn some pre-park history. \n11:00 am- Pond Walk *YPPMeet us at the Nature Center to walk to the nearby old farm pond to see what critters wemight find. (30 minutes) \n5:00 pm- Bird Bingo *YPPCome by the Activity Shelter at the Nature Center for a few rounds of Bird Bingo and learn someinteresting bird facts.
