DESCRIPTION:Bluestone State Park offers youth and family friendly activities hosted by Jonathan Lipscomb\, Naturalist and activities director from July 7 – 10\, 2023. Activities at Bluestone state park are free to attend unless indicated and open to the public. Cabin guests\, campers\, and the general public are encouraged to participate. \nFRIDAY\, July 7\, 20233-5pm spoon carvingFind the naturalist at the shelter below the events building to learn local history and the basics of spoon making. Wooden spoons? Yes!! *ypp \n5pm primitive fire startingWe’ll be at the shelter behind the events building before the weekly campfire to learn about how to start a fire without a lighter or match. Does this mean char cloth\, flint and steel? Yes!! *ypp \n7-9pm weekly campfireStill hanging out at the shelter behind the events building for our weekly campfire\, come to relax\, talk\, sing\, and learn about the local area. Learn how to make a dump cake. Yes! Over a fire and cast iron. Servings are $2 payable at on site with exact change or at the office. \n9-10pm astronomy and nocturnal creatures talkThe day concludes at the events building to learn about astronomy and the what comes stirs to live in the woods and nightlife. *ypp \nSATURDAY\, July 8\, 20239am lets go fishingRelax. You’re invited to join the naturalist for a relaxing morning fishing and learning about different types of fishing equipment at the fishing pier below the Bluestone State Park office. Bring your own equipment or borrow one of ours All ages are welcome to join\, although ages 15 up require a license which can be found at wvfish.com *ypp \n11am-12pm chalk art and giant bubblesThis is super fun! Meet at the Old Mill Campground bath house to make giant bubbles and your own chalk art. Kids and adults welcome. Come have fun!! \n1pm dip candlesNaturalist Lipscomb invited you meet in the pines next to the activities building to make historic dip candles. Heritage arts is a fun afternoon craft. $1 per candle exact change accepted on site or prepay at the office. *ypp \n2:30pm paw paw trail nature hikeMeet at the pool house to take a short hike up the Paw Paw Trail. This hike is around 0.5 miles each way and connects to the Big Pine trail on the ridge. You can do a ½ mile – come on! Let’s hike. Wear shoes with closed toes\, please. \n6-8pm tye dyeIt’s tye dye time. Adults and kiddos welcomed. Meet at the swimming pool to create a one of a kind souvenir. Shirts are $10 for a park shirt\, $5 if you bring your own. \nSUNDAY\, July 9\, 202310am Eagle Point nature hikeThis is a new trail. Meet at the overlook on the park entrance road to take a hike up the Eagle Point trail. This 1 mile each way trail is the newest on the park and ascends to a beautiful overlook above Rt 20. Long pants\, closed toed shoes\, and water are recommended. Its a little difficult at first\, but the view is wonderful \n1pm compass treasure huntMeet at the swimming pool to learn the basic operations of a compass and compete for a prize. A compass! Not an electronic device. Old school fun. *ypp \n3pm riverview trail clean upJoin me at the pool to take a conservation hike along the lower sections of the riverview trail and help clean up the debris from our last high water event. We’ll talk about the effects of rain at the park and maybe see some wildlife as we work to keep Bluestone State Park tidy. \n6pm tye dyeIt’s tye dye time again this weekend in case you missed it on Saturday.. Adults and kiddos welcomed. Meet at the swimming pool to create a one of a kind souvenir. Shirts are $10 for a park shirt\, $5 if you bring your own. \nMONDAY\, July 10\, 202310am fishing lure craftJoin Naturalist Jonathan behind the events building to learn how to craft a fishing lure to take home and use. This is a nice way to remember your visit to Bluestone and to create a special fishing lure by who? You! Lures are $5 exact change accepted on site or prepay in the office. ***ages 12 and up *ypp \n1pm stream walkLet’s meet at Bluestone State Park office to take a stroll to one of our local streams and see what wildlife we can find living in it. Plan for muddy or wet feet. It’s a great afternoon activity. *ypp \n*YPP is a Young People for Parks program.. These activities are focused on fun education for ages 6-16. DESCRIPTION:Pipestem sits on the east rim of the Bluestone River Gorge\, which carves through the plateau to the scenic Bluestone River 1\,200 feet below. Enjoy these activities when you visit July 10 – 13\, 2023. The Nature Center is open Wednesday – Sunday 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. Visit our exhibits and heritage structures and sit a spell in West Virginia made rocking chairs and watch the birds. \nMONDAY\, July 10\, 2023 \n10:00 amBarney Law Orchard Walk- Meet Bob at the Nature Center for a short hike to the homesite and orchard of former park resident\, Barney Law. YPP \n1:00 pmNature Center Open House- Stop by the Nature Center to meet Bob and have a tour of our Nature Center and Historic Structures. Then color a picture of a moth any color youwant. A great activity for kids or adults who love moths. YPP \n4:00 pmGo Batty for Bats- Cute or creepy\, bats are an important part of our environment. Join Kristen at the Activity Shelter behind the Nature Center to learn about some of WV’s native bat species and ways that they support our ecosystem.
