SUMMARY:VOYAGE:  North Bend
DESCRIPTION:Voyage!  Two state parks welcome you in 2023 with accommodations and dining at North Bend State Park and a blend of activities at Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park.  \nVoyage!  Stay overnight at North Bend Lodge and enjoy dinner and breakfast. The package is for two individuals.  If you have time while at the park\, get outside and play mini golf which is also included.  The mini golf is near the lodge at North Bend.  There are also trails nearby to walk or hike or a comfortable lobby to sit and relax. \nVoyage!  Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park is about 40 minutes from North Bend State Park.  Voyage includes on-the-island experiences for two individuals:  a horse drawn wagon ride/tour of the island (The Hardly Able Carriage Company is your host)\, a Blennerhassett Mansion tour led by docents providing the history of the structure and the island\, and most important\, two tickets to board the Island Belle sternwheeler to travel to and from the island.  Additionally admission to the Blennerhassett Regional History Museum is part of the Voyage package. \nVoyage! This packaged experience is for two individuals sharing a room\, two dinners\, two breakfasts\, two sternwheeler ride tickets\, and two tickets for wagon ride\, mansion tour\, and museum admission. The Voyage package is $299.99.  The cost also includes all applicable taxes and meal gratuities.  Transportation from North Bend to Blennerhassett Island State Park is not included. When making reservations and wanting to add another night stay at North Bend\, the reservationist may extend a reduced room rate for additional nights.   \nVoyage! This experience is available beginning May 3 to October 29\, 2023.  Be mindful that the island is not open on Monday.  However\, Monday’s that fall on a recognized holiday the island is open. Reservations for the Voyage package are required in advance by calling North Bend State Park at 304-643-2931. All Activities meet at Harold Walters Nature Center at the park unless the description has another meeting location. \nMONDAY June 26\, 2023Nature Center: 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. \n11:00 a.m. Wild Edible and Medicinal Plant WalkLet’s identify some common plants in our area that have been used at some point as an edible or medicinal herb. Sorry\, no sampling. About 1 hour. YPP \n1:00 p.m. What’s That Tree? JLet’s talk and learn what to look for when identifying a tree then test your new skill on an easy stroll around the area. Includes using leaf rubbing plates as activity. About 1 hour. 1 mile or less. YPP \n2:00 p.m. Tree themed craftsJoin the staff to create a leaf press or tree cookie for $2.00 each. \n3:00 p.m. Squirrels gone nutsDo you hear chattering or barking noises while walking on our trails? It might be one of our native squirrels. Visit the naturalist to learn more about squirrels found in West Virginia and Blackwater Falls State Park. About 45 minutes. YPP \n4:00 p.m. Kids Binoculars CraftUse crayons to decorate a pair of kid friendly binoculars. Craft fee: $2.00 \nTUESDAY\, June 27\, 2023Nature Center: 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. \n9:00 a.m. Warbler WanderJoin the park naturalist to walk along the lake in search of warblers and other feathered friends. Forgot your binoculars? The naturalist may have a pair you can borrow for the walk. And sometimes we don’t need binoculars to enjoy the sounds and catch a glimpse. About 1 hour\, some walking. YPP \n11:00 a.m. Bird Identification FunJoin the naturalist’s for a beginners friendly game to learn how to identify birds\, perhaps play agame and time permitting test our skills outside. Adults welcomed. The game helps to recall what you’ll see at Blackwater Falls. About 45 minutes. YPP \n1:00 p.m. Habitat Hike & CraftJoin the naturalist as we explore different habitats around the nature center. About 45 minutes. Afterwards create a habitat plate for free. The Habitat Plate craft is fun. YPP \n2:30 p.m. Compass Fun and CraftJoin the recreation assistant to enjoy a short film about using a map compass\, then perhaps some activities involving map and compass with park naturalist. Afterwards\, make a cardboard compass craft. About 1. 5 miles. 1 hour. YPP \n11:00 a.m. Friendship Bracelet CraftJoin The recreation assistant to weave together a pattern on a bracelet with embroidery thread. FREE. Not recommended for children under 8 years of age. \n1:00 p.m. Black Bear AwareJoin the park naturalist in Blackwater Falls Lodge to learn about our state mammal and howto keep the bear and you safe in bear habitat. About 1 hour. Afterwards\, a replica bear claw craft will be available to purchase for $2.00 (limited to first 10 for crafts at first come basis). \n2:30 p.m. Celestial Food chainJoin the staff to color pictures to create a food chain to hand on your celestial board . Craft fee: $1.00 \n3:30 p.m. Creature Feature: Woodpecker WOWJoin the park naturalist to hear about West Virginia’s Woodpeckers. About 30 minutes.
