SUMMARY:VOYAGE:  North Bend
DESCRIPTION:Voyage!  Two state parks welcome you in 2023 with accommodations and dining at North Bend State Park and a blend of activities at Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park.  \nVoyage!  Stay overnight at North Bend Lodge and enjoy dinner and breakfast. The package is for two individuals.  If you have time while at the park\, get outside and play mini golf which is also included.  The mini golf is near the lodge at North Bend.  There are also trails nearby to walk or hike or a comfortable lobby to sit and relax. \nVoyage!  Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park is about 40 minutes from North Bend State Park.  Voyage includes on-the-island experiences for two individuals:  a horse drawn wagon ride/tour of the island (The Hardly Able Carriage Company is your host)\, a Blennerhassett Mansion tour led by docents providing the history of the structure and the island\, and most important\, two tickets to board the Island Belle sternwheeler to travel to and from the island.  Additionally admission to the Blennerhassett Regional History Museum is part of the Voyage package. \nVoyage! This packaged experience is for two individuals sharing a room\, two dinners\, two breakfasts\, two sternwheeler ride tickets\, and two tickets for wagon ride\, mansion tour\, and museum admission. The Voyage package is $299.99.  The cost also includes all applicable taxes and meal gratuities.  Transportation from North Bend to Blennerhassett Island State Park is not included. When making reservations and wanting to add another night stay at North Bend\, the reservationist may extend a reduced room rate for additional nights.   \nVoyage! This experience is available beginning May 3 to October 29\, 2023.  Be mindful that the island is not open on Monday.  However\, Monday’s that fall on a recognized holiday the island is open. Reservations for the Voyage package are required in advance by calling North Bend State Park at 304-643-2931. DESCRIPTION:Once again\, Prickett’s Fort State Park welcomes Joel Dugan as part of Pricketts Fort Foundation’s artist in residence program. Join him Wednesday – Saturday\, June 21 – 24\, 2023 from 10:00AM-4:00PM and Sunday June 25 from Noon until 4:00PM. \nJoel currently resides in Fairmont\, West Virginia with his family and serves as the Chair for the Department of Architecture Art and Design at Fairmont State University. DESCRIPTION:Summer activities at Pipestem Resort State Park include wildlife games\, archery\, hiking and ultimate frisbee June 22-24\, 2023. Activities are posted at the park each week and open to the public to attend and typically free unless indicated. The Nature Center is open Wednesday – Sunday from 11:00AM – 5:00PM. Come visit. \nFriday\, June 23\, 2023 \n10:30 am – Wildlife of North America GameMeet Julie at the Nature Center for a quiz game about North American wildlife. (40 minutes) \n6:00 pm – Beginner ArcheryMeet Bob and Bryce at the Campground store to practice your skills at archery. (1 hour) YPP \n7:30 pm – Campfire Time!Meet Bryce and Bob at campsite #38 to learn how to make char cloth\, a fire-starting assistance\, and make fire using primitive fire starters. We will also roast some marshmallows. Bring a camping chair if you have one. (1 hour) YPP \nSaturday\, June 24\, 2023 \n10:00 am – Lake Shore HikeMeet Bryce at the pedestrian foot bridge that crosses the road near McKeever Lodge to see what we might find in nature. This hike will go down to the lake and travel along parts of the lake shore before joining the Cottage Trail back to the road. From there we will walk back to McKeever Lodge while enjoying views along the way. (1 ½ hours) YPP \n11:00 am – Nature HuntMeet Bob at the Nature Center. He will hand out a list of objects outside to look for in Nature.(30 minutes) YPP \n2:00 pm – Ultimate FrisbeeMeet Bryce at the Campground store to learn how to play Ultimate Frisbee. About 1 hour. This activity is repeated at 11:45 a.m. Join the fun. YPP \n2:00 p.m. Clues to the Animal WorldJoin the park naturalist to learn about skulls and clues left by wild animals while learning to share wild places! About 1 hour. YPP \n3:30 p.m. Paracord Critter CraftJoin the recreation assistant to create a critter constructed of paracord. This activity is not recommended for very young children due to technical braiding of craft. Adults welcomed. The rules are the same as 8-ball pool\, except you use your feet. Sturdy shoes required. Lot’s of fun. We’ll explain the game rules. About 45 minutes \n3:00 p.m. The Monarch and MoreThe Monarch Butterfly\, WV’s state butterfly. We’ll discuss this insect and other pollinators and why they are essential. Weather permitting\, we may venture outside to look for pollinators. Program Includes a Butterfly Wings Craft – a super fun craft! Join the staff to use a utility knife to create a pair of child sized cardboard “stained glass” butterfly wings. The use of a utility knife requires an adult to assist their child. About 1 hour. Craft fee: $4.00 YPP \n6:00 p.m. Thrushes of West VirginiaThis program helps us with identification\, by sight and sound\, of a sometimes difficult bird group\, the thrushes. The thrushes are among the most amazing songsters of all the North American birds. YPP \n9:00 p.m. Shining Light on the DarknessJoin park naturalist Paulita Cousin for some nighttime fun. There are many aspects of nature that occur between dusk and dawn but many people feel uncomfortable or unfamiliar with being outdoors at night. Enjoy some nighttime activities as we explore our senses. Some walking. Activity is entirely outdoors so dress for the weather. Please\, leave the flashlight off during the program. About 1 hour. YPP \nSUNDAY\, June 25\, 2023Nature Center: 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. \n11:00 a.m. Pollinator Garden WanderIt’s a stroll around the pollinator garden at the nature center and perhaps up to Pendleton Point to look for blooming plants\, do a monarch butterfly survey\, and discuss the importance of pollinators and native plants. About 1 hour. 1/2 mile. YPP \n1:30 p.m. Pickle BallJoin the staff to try and play the fastest-growing sport in the US\, rising popularity over the past couple years. Pickleball is played on the old tennis court with a net in the middle. Some describe it as playing ping pong but on a table\, Similar to tennis but server underhand and less running. The ball is light – it’s the weight of a whiffle ball\,. The paddle is similar to a racquetball paddle\, but about twice that size. About 1 hour. \n3:00 p.m. FBI – Forest Bureau of Investigation HikeJoin the Naturalist for this kid friendly detective walk where we search for evidence of “criminal activity” within our natural world.
