SUMMARY:VOYAGE:  North Bend
DESCRIPTION:Voyage!  Two state parks welcome you in 2023 with accommodations and dining at North Bend State Park and a blend of activities at Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park.  \nVoyage!  Stay overnight at North Bend Lodge and enjoy dinner and breakfast. The package is for two individuals.  If you have time while at the park\, get outside and play mini golf which is also included.  The mini golf is near the lodge at North Bend.  There are also trails nearby to walk or hike or a comfortable lobby to sit and relax. \nVoyage!  Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park is about 40 minutes from North Bend State Park.  Voyage includes on-the-island experiences for two individuals:  a horse drawn wagon ride/tour of the island (The Hardly Able Carriage Company is your host)\, a Blennerhassett Mansion tour led by docents providing the history of the structure and the island\, and most important\, two tickets to board the Island Belle sternwheeler to travel to and from the island.  Additionally admission to the Blennerhassett Regional History Museum is part of the Voyage package. \nVoyage! This packaged experience is for two individuals sharing a room\, two dinners\, two breakfasts\, two sternwheeler ride tickets\, and two tickets for wagon ride\, mansion tour\, and museum admission. The Voyage package is $299.99.  The cost also includes all applicable taxes and meal gratuities.  Transportation from North Bend to Blennerhassett Island State Park is not included. When making reservations and wanting to add another night stay at North Bend\, the reservationist may extend a reduced room rate for additional nights.   \nVoyage! This experience is available beginning May 3 to October 29\, 2023.  Be mindful that the island is not open on Monday.  However\, Monday’s that fall on a recognized holiday the island is open. Activities are free to attend and open to the public unless noted. \nFRIDAY\, June 23\, 2023 \n8:00 am – “Birding Basics”Meet Tammy at the front entrance of the Lodge for a short walk to learn some simple and basic principles to see more of our feathered friends in your backyard and ways to identify these feathered friends using a field guide. No birding experience necessary; seasoned birders welcomed. (YPP) \n2:00 – 4:00 pm Nature Center is open! \n5:00 pm – “Creek Crawl with Ace”!Meet Ace England\, the summer outdoor assistant at the Falls Trail parking lot to explore the creek. The thrushes are among the most amazing songsters of all the North American birds. YPP \n9:00 p.m. Shining Light on the DarknessJoin park naturalist Paulita Cousin for some nighttime fun. There are many aspects of nature that occur between dusk and dawn but many people feel uncomfortable or unfamiliar with being outdoors at night. Enjoy some nighttime activities as we explore our senses. Some walking. Activity is entirely outdoors so dress for the weather. Please\, leave the flashlight off during the program. About 1 hour. YPP \nSUNDAY\, June 25\, 2023Nature Center: 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. \n11:00 a.m. Pollinator Garden WanderIt’s a stroll around the pollinator garden at the nature center and perhaps up to Pendleton Point to look for blooming plants\, do a monarch butterfly survey\, and discuss the importance of pollinators and native plants. About 1 hour. 1/2 mile. YPP \n1:30 p.m. Pickle BallJoin the staff to try and play the fastest-growing sport in the US\, rising popularity over the past couple years. Pickleball is played on the old tennis court with a net in the middle. Some describe it as playing ping pong but on a table\, Similar to tennis but server underhand and less running. The ball is light – it’s the weight of a whiffle ball\,. The paddle is similar to a racquetball paddle\, but about twice that size. About 1 hour. \n3:00 p.m. FBI – Forest Bureau of Investigation HikeJoin the Naturalist for this kid friendly detective walk where we search for evidence of “criminal activity” within our natural world. SUMMARY:Wings of Wonder-Birds of Prey: Cacapon
DESCRIPTION:Three Rivers Avian Center (TRAC) is live at Cacapon Resort State Park on Friday\, June 23\, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. The educational birds are a great opportunity to learn what birds say “who cooks for me\, who cooks for you all?” as well as meeting other raptors. \n\n\n\nThis evening program is all about raptors native to West Virginia: hawks\, eagles\, falcons\, and owls.  You’ll learn about the habitat\, diet and behavior of each bird presented\, the most common causes of injury to each species and the laws protecting these special birds. This program is scheduled at several state parks in 2023.   \n\n\n\nThere is no fee to attend. Open to the public\, the program lasts about an hour and is staged in the Bath House at Cacapon Resort State Park. Questions are welcomed. This is a family friendly event. An excellent presentation for all ages.
