Winter Activities

January 18, 2019 @ 8:01 pm

10:00 a.m. Spruce Bogs and Berries is an exceptional winter walk with Jenna Hughes, seasonal naturalist. Meet at the trailhead of Gentle Trail for this fun yet educational walk along Yellow Birch Trail. Open to any age. Dress for weather conditions.

1:30 p.m. Tracks in the Snow sets foot from the Blackwater Falls Nature Center. We often miss the animal as they have invariably spied us first and then reacted to our presence usually by fleeing. Signs of wildlife bring us closer to the normal habits and perceptions of the animal world. Animal locomotion is complex but identifying a track can be thrilling and challenging fun. Learn about some of the animals found at Blackwater Falls in the winter, their tracks, trail patterns and habits. Dress for outdoor exploration and wintry weather.

Nature Center Hours: 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Sledding is key fun at Blackwater Falls. The number of tickets per session are limited and very often sell out. A limited number of tickets are available to reserve for groups of 10 or more. All other tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis. Tickets may be purchased for any session that day, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Learn more about this awesome outdoor fun at https://wvstateparks.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Blackwater.Sled-Run.Rates_.pdf.
