Monday, June 24
10:00 a.m. Tai Chi — This class will help increase balance, flexibility, and focus on connection to mind, body, & spirit. Held at the Lodge. (1 hour)
10:30 a.m. Wildflower Meadow Tour — Cacapon has 8 acres of wildflower meadows that help all the pollinators. Join in for a hike to discover them! (1 hour) Ask the naturalist how you can volunteer to study Monarchs in July.
1:30 p.m. Birds of Prey Owls — Learn all about owls and what they eat, by dissecting an owl pellet. (1 hour) YPP
3:30 p.m. Turtle Craft — Enjoy making your own turtle craft. (30 minutes)
4:00 p.m. Pond & River Film — Enjoy a short film at the nature center. (30 minutes)
4:00 p.m. Meet & Greet Cacapon — Welcome to Cacapon! Please join the seasonal naturalist at the lodge to help plan your visit & answer any park questions! (1.5 hours)
Tuesday, June 25
10:30 a.m. Discovery Walk — So much to discover! Use the Young People’s Series Wildlife Guide & Checklist to find birds, mammals, reptiles & amphibians! (1 hour) YPP
1:00 p.m. Intro to Backcountry Camping & Leave No Trace — Discover some helpful tips to have a safe & enjoyable camping experience. (1 hour) YPP
3:00 p.m. Stream Study — Discover what makes a stream healthy and what unlikely critters may be hiding in plain sight! Meet at Nature Center. You may want to bring shoes to get wet. (1 hour) YPP
4:00 p.m. Eyewitness Insect — Enjoy a short film at the nature center.
4:30 p.m. Bug Bingo! — Enjoy this fun game with a picture & fun facts on every playing card! (30 minutes)
Wednesday, June 26
9:15 a.m. Meet the Horses of Cacapon — Stop by the Triple “C” Outfitters to meet & learn about one of the horses here at Cacapon. Meet at horse stables. (30 minutes)
1:00 p.m. Butterfly Craft — Make and create your own butterfly craft with stamps to show the stages of this amazing transformation! (30 minutes)
2:00 p.m. Butterfly Bingo! — Enjoy this fun game with pictures & fun facts on every playing card. (30 minutes)
2:30 p.m. Eyewitness Butterfly & Moth — Enjoy a short film. (30 minutes)
Thursday, June 27
Nature Center Open: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
10:30 a.m. Amazing Amphibians — Learn some of Cacapon’s common frogs. Let’s discover their amazing sounds. Followed by a craft. Color your own picture from “Petersons Field Guide Coloring Book” YPP (1 hour)
12:00 p.m. Eyewitness Amphibian — Enjoy a short film. Learn all about their double life on land and water!
1:30 p.m. What’s the buzz all about? — Take a walk to Cacapon’s Wildflower Meadows and learn their importance to our pollinators. (1.5 hours) YPP
3:00 p.m. Cacapon Mountain Overlook — Meet the naturalist at the overlook 5 miles past nature center. Enjoy this drop-in style program to take in the view and learn about Cacapon’s geology & history. (1 hour)
4:00 p.m. Eyewitness Black Bear — Enjoy a short film on bears. (30 minutes)
Friday, June 28
10:00 a.m. Fishing 101 — Meet at the Nature Center, then let’s head out to the lake! We will learn more about lake habitat. Fishing poles and bait will be available for the first five participants or bring your own! Adult participants require a fishing license. (1 hour) YPP
1:00 p.m. WV Wildlife & Molds — Join us in learning about WV wildlife, looking at pelts, skulls, tracts & scat. Followed by making a take home mold of an animal of your choosing! (1 hour) YPP
4:00 p.m. Meet and Greet Cacapon — Meet the Naturalist in the lounge of the lodge to answer any general park questions you may have or find out what amazing recreation and nature activities Cacapon has to offer. Welcome to Cacapon Resort State Park! (1 hour)
7:30 p.m. History Alive! Charles Schulz — Enjoy this living history presentation of Charles Schulz, the cartoonist and creator of comic strip “Peanuts” which features the character Charlie Brown and Snoopy. Fairfax room at lodge. Program is made possible by the WV Humanities Council.
Saturday, June 29
Nature Center Open: 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

2:30 p.m. Cacapon Tie-Dye — Join us at the Nature Center for a fun afternoon of tie-dying! Make this a State Park tradition & take home your own park tie-dye T-shirt!(1 hour) YPP ***State Park T-shirts sold at Nature Center $10.00 will cover T-shirt & dye.
7:30 p.m. Cacapon Campfire — Join us at the campfire circle for a marshmallow roastin’ good time! You bring the marshmallows, and we will provide the sticks. WV songs & trivia. (1 hour)
9:00 p.m. Join us for an evening of stargazing with local astronomer Kevin Boles from Morgan County Observatory. We will learn about constellations & mythology. If conditions allow, we will view deep space objects using telescopes and binoculars. Meet at Lodge.
Young People for Parks
YPP is an environmental education program for children ages 6-16. To complete the program, participants attend three specified activities during their stay. These programs are indicated on the weekly program by the YPP logo. Participants will also complete the information on a special YPP brochure. After turning it into the park’s naturalist, each participant will receive a state park incentive for participating in three specified programs. All ages are welcome!
