Weekend Activities at Cacapon

The weekend activities at Cacapon find butterflies, dark skies, hikes and birding programs planned. Join in August 27 – 29, 2021. The Nature Center is typically open from 9:15 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. Activities are free to attend and open to the public.

Friday, August 27, 2021
10:00AM Monarch Scout
Help conduct a survey monarchs at the nature center’s monarch waystation. The focus is on early stages of monarch eggs and caterpillars. Earn a monarch scout patch & certificate for participating. YPP

1:30PM Nature Journaling
Take a short hike and draw or write about what you discover! YPP

7:00PM Irish Road Bowling
Come out for a fun Irish tradition established as an official West Virginia sport (WVIRB.com), rolling a cannon ball on a designed course.

11:00AM West Virginia Wildlife Molds
Discover a variety of wildlife pelts followed by a take home mold craft. YPP

3:00PM Magnificent Monarchs & Waystation
Learn all about the life cycle of a monarch butterfly & tour the nature center’s monarch waystation. YPP

7:00PM A Lovely Evening Hike
Meet park volunteer and Potomac Valley Master Naturalist at the lodge for a walk & talk about the park history and what’s new in the park.

8:30PM Awesome Night Skies
Join local astronomer Kevin Boles for an evening of gazing at the stars. Meet at the north lodge at Cacapon State Park on outside patio, where we will walk a short distance to view the night sky.

9:30AM West Virginia Morning Melodies
Join us for a beginner birding hike, Binoculars provided. YPP

At Berkeley Springs State Park
1:00PM Park Orientation & History
Join the park naturalist at Berkeley Springs State Park in the picnic area near the warm springs. Drop by anytime
from 1-2pm to look at pictures of park through the years.

Explorer Packs
Your child’s guide to the outdoors! These packs are available to rent for free! They have field guides, tools, and activities to entertain!

Young People for Parks (YPP)
Young People for Parks (YPP) is a nature based activity program conducted at multiple state parks throughout the summer months. Geared for youth ages 6-16, participants attend and participate in a minimum of three designated programs to achieve YPP status. All are welcome.
