Tygart Lake – Geology Rocks!
If you like rocks, gravel, sand, and really old things like meteors and fossils, this is the weekend for you! Meet Ken Ashton, a state geologist with the West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey and learn about the geology of the Mountain State.
There will be an indoor geology presentation on Friday evening; a Saturday morning rock walk to view rock formations; a new Geology Rocks! game for anyone to play throughout the weekend, a “Rock, Paper, Scissors” challenge, “Meet a Dam” interpreter talk about the history of Tygart Lake Dam, a concrete gravity dam built between 1934 -1938 on the Tygart Valley River, nature center open, and restaurant specials to enjoy.
A Geology Rocks patch is one of six special patches to be earned when attending and participating in special interpretive programs. Excellent for any age with an interest in geology or a desire to learn more about West Virginia’s hills. Join us.
