The place to be for outdoor fun and nature is North Bend State Park. Activities on this Tuesday include:
11:30 a.m. Powerful Pollinators – Pollinators exist all around us and help us in so many ways. The current trend shows that may need some help as their population overall is starting to decline. See how you can help while learning about local pollinating species that exist throughout West Virginia and the surrounding region. You’re never too young or too old to begin learning how these groups of critters are a key part of the ecosystem and one that needs to be valued. We will meet at the Nature Center. (1 hour) YPP
1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Nature Center Open – Come inside to enjoy arts and crafts and a chance to meet some of our wildlife friends. Take a look around and marvel at the mysteries of nature.
4:00 p.m. Leave No Trace – Every activity that we do outside has the potential to leave some kind of impact behind after we’re through. This can sometimes be a problem for the environment and wildlife. Join our Quest guides in learning how to avoid some of these hazards when you are participating in whatever you love to do outside. Respect for the land and the wildlife that inhabit it will keep it pristine for everyone to enjoy! We will meet at the parking lot at Basecamp. (1 hour) YPP
5:30 p.m. Animal Architecture – Join in on a hike along the Overlook Trail in search of the various tunnels, pits, and other clever structures that wildlife build. Experience the specific niches and habitats of several different types of animals that help them thrive in the forest. Moderate terrain. We will meet at the Overlook trailhead, across from Cabin 8. (1.5 hours) YPP
7:00 p.m. Spirit Animal Masks – Some Native American cultures believe that everyone has a spirit animal that guides their life and shares similar characteristics with them. Find out your own spirit animal and become one with it as you make a wearable mask in this fun craft. We will meet at the Nature Center. (1 hour)
