Thunder on the Gauley, The Battle of Carnifex Ferry

The Battle of Carnifex Ferry is a living history event recalling the September 10, 1861 event. Various living history demonstrations depicting Civil War military life are scheduled over the course of two days. Weekend events will conclude with the reenactment of the battle that was fought September 10, 1861, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2018.
Saturday – September 8th, 2018
9:00 a.m. – Camp Opens to the Public
2:00 p.m. – Parade in the Town of Summersville at the Potato Festival
7:00 p.m. – Tactical Battle
Camp and Shelter Area Closes to the Public at Dark.
Sunday, September 9, 2018
9:00 a.m. – Camp open to Public
Public can view various living history demonstrations such as camp life and military drills.
10:00 a.m. – Period Church Services open to the public
11:30 a.m. – Period Wedding open to the public
2:00 p.m. – Battle of Carnifex Ferry. (The main park road is closed to vehicle traffic during battle reenactment.)
4:00 p.m. – Camp closed
“Wise’s Legion” is organizing and conducting this event at Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park.
