Blackwater Falls offers these things to do August 9-11, 2019. Join in the fun and participate. Activities marked with * are held at the Nature Center.

FRIDAY, August 9, 2019

Nature Center Open: 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

11:00 a.m. Ravens Nature Film*-Intelligence in Flight. About 1 hour. YPP

12:00 p.m. Eagle Claw Keychain Craft* Craft fee: $1.18 + tax.

3:00 p.m. Make a Star Clock.* No fee for this craft. YPP

4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. NASA Star Dome.* Crawl into this indoor interpretive dome to learn about the importance of dark skies and a little about the Greek mythology of constellations. The naturalist will present about every 1/2 hour during this two hour block. No reservations required. YPP

7:00 p.m. BINGO*– A traditional game suitable for the entire family. Small novelty prize given to winner(s). About 1 hour.

10:00 p.m. Catch a Shooting Star.* Meteor show watching. About 45 minutes. YPP

SATURDAY, August 10, 2019

Nature Center Open: 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. NASA Star dome interpretive activity YPP

1:30 p.m. Tie Dye a Souvenir T-Shirt*– Use colorful dye on a Blackwater Falls Black or White t-shirt. Craft fee: $8.00 youth, $10.00 Adult. Sizes limited to first come. Heat transfer available for t-shirt at an additional cost of $4.00 + tax.

2:00 p.m. Make a Moon Phase Craft* No fee for this craft. YPP

3:30 p.m. Baggie Ice Cream– Join the recreation attendants Amie and Emily in Harold Walters Nature Center to make a baggie of ice cream. No fee for this activity.

6:00 p.m. Planets Craft* No fee for this craft. YPP

7:30 p.m. Family Movie Night*

SUNDAY, August 11, 2019

Nature Center Open: 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

9:00 a.m. Interdenominational Worship Service in Blackwater Falls Lodge with Pastor Ruth Bullwinkle. Casual Dress.

10:00 a.m. Neon Woven Bracelet Craft* Craft fee: 0.94¢ + tax.

10:30 a.m. Balsam Fir Walk* A stroll through a northern hardwood forest and past some native fir trees. Little to no interpretation. About 1.5 miles, 70 minutes. YPP

12:00 p.m. Meet our Turtles & Craft* Learn about the turtles on display in the aquarium.

YPP– Young People for Parks Program
Youth ages 6-16 years attend three of the Blackwater Falls State Park nature or park story activities listed as YPP. Complete a ‘what I discovered’ feature and meet with us at the Nature Center to receive your YPP patch. Note: All programs including those marked YPP are open to any age.
