Sunday Activities at North Bend
June 30, 2018 @ 9:01 pm
The place to be for outdoor fun and nature is North Bend State Park. Activities on this Sunday include:
11:00 a.m. – Irish Road Bowling Tournament – You don’t have to be Irish or a bowler to play this sport! Learn the game that is taking state parks across West Virginia by storm. Winners will have their team name emblazoned on the famous Irish Road Bowling trophy for the 2018 season! A simple game that is lots of fun. We will meet at the Cokeley Recreation Area Bathhouse. (1 hour) YPP
1:00 – 3:00 p.m. – Nature Center Open – Come inside to enjoy arts and crafts and a chance to meet some of our wildlife friends. Take a look around and marvel at the mysteries of nature.
4:00 p.m. – Hibbs Cemetery Trail Hike – The Hibbs Family lived centuries before North Bend came into existence but left behind a small family cemetery. Although it may be easily overlooked, legend has it that the remains were never moved. Take a look for yourself with the park naturalist as you learn about some of the local plants and wildlife along the way. We will meet at the River Run Campground Check in Station. (1 hour, 1 mile) YPP
7:00 p.m. – Evening Paddle – Bring your own kayak or rent one from North Bend Outfitters (304.299.1768) and take a casual paddle on the North Bend Lake. The water is a great place for wildlife observation and fantastic views. The trip will be guided, and basic kayak skills are recommended. We will meet at the Cokeley Boat Ramp. (2 hours)
Young People for Parks Program (YPP) This is an Environmental Education Program for children 6 – 16. Children need to attend three YPP activities during their stay at North Bend. Children will receive a certificate and a prize.
