Sunday Activities at Cacapon

The Cacapon Nature Center is open from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.. Other outdoor activities include:

WV Morning Melodies (10:00 a.m.) Meet at the Nature Center for a short hike. Let’s learn who is making all that noise! Is it a bird or a squirrel, a deer or a frog – we’ll listen and watch. (1 hour)

WV Tree Challenge (11:30 a.m.) Tree challenge begins at the Nature Center to learn some basic concepts on tree identification. We will use the Young People’s Series Tree Guide & Checklist to ID the flagged trees in this challenge. Don’t know hickory from beech? – this is the activity for you!

Leaf Craft (12:00 p.m.) Make your own leaf craft. A quick craft for something to do and learn a little bit about trees at Cacapon. Any age welcome. (20 minutes)

Secrets of Streams (1:00 p.m.) Discover what makes a stream healthy and what unlikely critters may be hiding in plain sight! Meet at Nature Center. You may want to bring shoes to get wet.(45 minutes)

What’s the Buzz all about? (2:30 p.m.) Join the naturalist to discuss why pollinators are so important and the role they play here at Cacapon. We will take a short walk to a Pollinator Zone – a meadow of blooms and grasses that make butterflies, bees and other insects, happy happy!

PVAS Explorer Packs! Your Child’s Guide to the Outdoors! The Potomac Valley Audubon Society explorer packs are available for a day or two use, free of charge, from the Nature Center. Packs are filled with field guides and activities to entertain! Thanks to our local Audubon Society for this swell “explore” opportunity.
